Hi there. I thought it's easier to keep track of what people are expecting by using a poll thread rather than anything else. Let's get it started!

If you have any additions please let me know.

btw. will be fun to see if most of us were right when it's released :)

The current 6D is essentially a 5D Mark II 2nd Gen.

If Canon stays on this path - the 6D2 will be a 5D3.

But will it be better?

I think high ISO noise will improve. Not sure if they'll officially claim it is a stop better - but IQ will get better.

Megapixel count might go up no more than a few.

I can see the FPS going up to 5, or maybe 6 at the most.

I can see the AF going up to 19 points. Not sure about 61. That would just put it too close to the 5D series.

Another item that is hard to predict is dual or single card slot. Depends how low Canon wants to be about crippling a camera to prevent pro use.

Buffer could increase, after all, memory only gets larger for the same or less money.

I've speculated in another thread that while the 6D was equal or better than the 5D2, there are reasons why the 6D2 may not follow suit and be equal or better than the 5D3. In short, the 5D3 was a huge leap in performance, particularly the AF system.

Like all Canonistas around here...there's always a lot of hope and excitement, and the speculation often goes way above what Canon actually produces. The 5DS is really nothing more than huge megapixel count. The rest is just a 5D3, and with weaker ISO. The 7D2...this was a let down for many who hyped the specs. On sensor, ok nothing huge. But on AF and FPS - Canon did great.

Seems that Canon is not going to lay out any single camera that has multiple features that are significantly improved.

5DS = Big MP Sensor
7D2 = Speed and AF
5DX/5DC = Video? Low light?

6D2 = Low end FF general purpose camera (a 5D3 with some things better, other things worse).

1DX2 = Everything except for big MP.

The Canon 6D is lighter and smaller than all the 5D's but I feel like it's still too big and heavy for what it features.

What about a 6DS which has a fullframe sensor in a body almost as small and lightweight as the EOS 100D? Could be a possible route for Canon to deliver something more portable without sacrificing on the sensor side.

Is FF mirrorless actually the only option for people like me or do you believe that Canon isn't really interested in making great things smaller? Technically it should be possible and there is definitive a great market for it.

6DII would sell like hotcakes=Rebel T6s with full frame for $1500 plus the ability to use EFS lens (crop mode).

The 5Ds would sell like hotcakes if it had a proper crop mode that allowed for a faster frame rate even without EFS compatability but that didn't happen. Canon have decided it's not worth hotcakes so it ain't gonna happen on a 6D

Voting locked. Thanks to everyone!

The most expected things for the mkII are:
  • dualpixel AF
  • a maximum of 24mp
  • increased buffer size
  • touchscreen
  • more than 4,5 fps
  • shutterspeed; 1/8000sec.
  • 19 focus points or even more (remains unsure)
...and of course it will have Wi-Fi, GPS, a new DIGIC processor, better high ISO performance and probably higher ISO settings.

People have divided opinions on:
  • articulating lcd screen
  • number of focus points
  • dual-card slot

Features that probably won't make it into the body are:
  • button illumination
  • new body design/smaller dimensions
  • built-in flash
  • more than 24mp

Thank you again - this topic is still opened for discussion and if you have any expectations for announcement date, pricing etc. feel free to share it with us.

How about a flash sync speed above 1/180th? ... it would be a nice selling point on all Canon cameras.

Good point, I wasn't thinking about that one. Fast flash sync seems to be more like a "pro feature" to prevent professionals buying the 6D instead of the well-rounded 5D-series. Still, I think the 6D series will continue to be a good & not-so-expensive backup camera. For me, the 6D mk I is the best go-to workhorse from canon for astrophotography (I do that a lot). I'm excited and looking forward to the arrival of the mk II, hopefully in 2015.
