That's nice of adorama and cr to collaborate, but too bad it's on an item that even with the deal its still 30% over the street price for mint condution or BNIB.

I'm not sure where you've found this priced at 30% lower than the price for this refurb. Canon has the same lens on their refurb page at $919.20 - http://shop.usa.canon.com/shop/en/catalog/lenses-flashes/refurbished-lenses/ef-24-105mm-f-4l-is-usm-refurbished - and it's selling for $1149 for BNIB.

Curious, where did you find this at the lower street price or BNIB?

The "street price" (full USA warranty) from an authorized dealer is only $659.99: http://www.canonpricewatch.com/product/00047/Canon-EF-24-105mm-f4L-IS-USM-price.html

If you're going to buy a lens from an ebay seller who is selling gear for about half the price of Adorama or B&H, you're a much braver person than I am. I wouldn't trust my hard earned money to one of those sellers.

Celebrating 20 years of model photography!
If there is ever a contest to determine the best kit lens ever made, I would suggest the 24-105 as a contestant. It really does a lot of things amazingly well for the price. I bought one a year ago from Big Value for about $600 because I had to satisfy my Gear Acquisition Syndrome. Didn't think I'd use it much at the time! I'm still surprised how often I reach for it when I need a good reliable zoom lens for an important photoshoot.

This deal is actually through a very reputable online retailer, not eBay.

Nonetheless, I see no problem purchasing from eBay if it were from an authorized dealer and included USA warranty.

Sorry, I'm not talking about from an authorized dealer. You can find this lens for $500 to $600 on places like eBay or FM in mint condition or BNIB split form a kit. On a lens like this, I don't think its worth the extra couple hundred dollars for a warranty.

Most of my lenses are second hand. I don't hesitate to purchase used glass if the deal is legit and the hardware is in good shape. I have sold several $4k+ lenses on ebay (including 500f4 IS) and bought several $4k+ lenses from individuals on classified listings on other forums (including 300f2.8IS II). I've saved thousands of dollars on gear doing this and can almost always sell something for exactly what I paid for it. Gotta do your due diligence though... there are scammers out there, but most are honest people just selling camera gear.
