Looking forward to f8 in April, I have the 100-400L and am wondering which teleconvertor to buy the 1.4 or the 2.0? Canon or Kenko?
I suspect 1.4 is the way to go but would love to hear opinions and see some images that may convince me which is best.

Regards, Alan

A 2x TC will be f/11 with the 100-400mm, so you'll lose AF. The 1.4x is f/8, so that works. The Canon 1.4x will give you just the center AF point and the surrounding 4.

FWIW, I'm pretty happy with the 100-400mm + 1.4xIII on my 1D X

Get a 1.4X with the 100-400L. Its manual focus only with the 2X, and IQ takes a bigger hit. You not only have less light with a 2X, but need a faster shutter speed than with the 1.4X. Cropping a 1.4X image is pretty much equivalent.

Thanks for the info, I had not realised the 2x would be f11 :-[ any preference between the Canon or Kenko, my instinct is to go with the Canon Mk111 even if it is more expensive.

One thing to consider is that the Kenko will work with lenses like the 100mmL and the 70-300mmL while the Canon TC either will not mount at all, or only works at certain focal lengths.
I bout a Kenko f/1.4 and it worked for about 20 images and then dies the 2nd time I went to use it. I did not replace it, just returned it because Canon announced the f/8 firmware and I already have Canon TC's.
I have not heard of reliability issues with Kenko, so it might have just been bad luck.
