Field of view - 24 TS-E vs Schneider 50 PC-TS

So this might be a long shot, but how reasonable is the assumption that the Schneider would have (roughly) half the field of view of the Canon, assuming no shift in any direction? I can (presently) get one or the other but not both.

Bare in mind those are angle of view figures when focused at infinity, the specific lenses would have to be tested against each other for actual angles in practice.

This is why I ask; I don't wish to learn the expensive way about some damned gotcha that pertains to TS lenses.

No there is nothing special about T/S lenses that make them different from an angle of view point. But the way lenses are built to focus is intrinsic to the lens design and there might be more impact on your aov between the two because of that.

Having said that, the 50 is not well reviewed so I wonder on your motivation for going that direction.

I have a vacation coming and one scene in particular I want to get right; my recent experience with a rented 24 and my analysis of the take from it suggests that it is the right lens but I want to compare options. That said I haven't seen much good press for the Schneider either which seems odd given its price tag.

The TS-E 24 II (unofficially) takes the 1.4x and 2x III extenders and they work very well. The sharpness lost is minimal at f/8 and beyond with the 1.4x III and little worse but still very usable with the 2x III. It takes a bit more of a hit as you increase shift and tilt, but still produces very good results even at say a shift of +4 and a tilt of 1.5. I frequently use the extenders with this lens and love the flexibility they add when you can't get closer - like when a river is in the way - this is with the 5DIII, TS-E 24 f/3.5 II + 2x III, tilt +6, shift +1, ND6 @ f/16, 37s, ISO 100:

and a 100% crop - keeping in mind that the photo was degraded somewhat by high humidity and the wind during the long exposure. I have printed this at 20x30" and it looks very good:

Did you get those two the wrong way around? 6º of tilt is massive and would give you a J point 1.5 feet below the camera, yet the horizon looks to be closer to 6mm of shift.

Yes, way wrong! +6 shift +1 tilt!

Indeed? A 1.4x is easy enough to squirrel away, and might be just the ticket if 24 is a bit wide; thank you for taking the time to show me.

Sorry, yes, that is so often said I just assume that everybody knows it by now! I use the 1.4 TC MkIII on the 17TS-E regularly, and the 2xTC MkII rarely. Indeed the main reason I got the 1.4 was for the 17 as it gives me a comparatively cheap 24TS-E. But all six Canon TC's, 1.4 and 2 MkI/II/III, all fit and work with the 24TS-E MkII and the 17TS-E.
