First canon ever. Actiom shots of horses?

Iv always been big into photography and just got my first nice camera (none hand me down) a Canon Powershot SX30IS (zoom lens 35x is, 4.3-150.5mm 1:2.7-5.8 usm) and I love taking photos of my animals mostly my horse. What is the best mode/settings to take action shots of horses? So a leg(s) don't blur.

While you are at it, what are the best ingrediants for the best dinner, and what are the best tools for a medical procedure, and what are the best colors to use for a painting? Depends on the surrounding conditions. If you look at the latest 1dx reviewer, he consistantly used 1/13,000 for a camera speed for pictures of birds in flight, but depending on the lens aperature, iso setting and light levels, this may not be the best advice.

Now for more practical advise: use Tv (time value) mode and select a faster speed and let the camera do the rest if the most important thing to you is the lack of blur. Personally, I wouldn't mind the blur in the legs as I would mind the lack of blur in the background. Setting your camera to Av mode and selecting an aperature around 2.8 should give a nicer look, isolating your subject from distractions in the background.
