From PB via NL: 5DII to remain in lineup, completely new model instead?

There we read:
"A tipster recently sent me word that the Canon 5D Mark II would remain in Canon’s lineup in the near future. However, another new DSLR model would be released soon (instead of a 5D Mark III) and would be a step-up from the 5D Mark II."

That looks like a poorly mocked up image of the speculated Cinema DSLR, which is indeed supposed to be a separate camera from the 5D III. I don't believe that it is supposed to be a replacement for it, however...its supposed to be a new entrant in Canon's offerings, and wouldn't preclude a 5D III according to current rumors.

I'm assuming the picture on that article doesn't represent the actual camera but is just there to represent a new camera instead of the 5D Mark III everyone is talking about. Either way, I'm hoping a 5D III does come out some time soon.

That kinda makes sense honestly. If a 5D3 comes out and the video crowd starts buying them it could screw up the sales for the cinema dslr. Makes sense really

One rumor does not confirm another. Often it is just the same rumor going around and enhanced along the way.

 

[Mark D5 TEAM II]

Only the EOS-3 model name would be a step up from a 5D model. Which would jibe with the rumors of pro-grade 1DX-type 61-pt AF and 6.9-7.5fps, etc. The only reason the technically-inferior 5D2 outsold the D700 was because of the higher MP and the then-novel Full HD movie recording. Now that those 2 advantages are gone Canon has no choice but to upgrade from the Rebel-class AF, frame rate, slow shutter release lag time, long VF blackout time, 0.71x 98% VF coverage, build quality, metering, etc.
