There are some new specifications and rumors about the upcoming Hasselblad X2DII

and Richard naturally has an opinion ;)

With every Hasselblad announcement I wonder if it’s work selling all my gear except the R5+100-500 and macro gear and using a hassleblad for all the family stuff.
Then my wife will remind me that we can do a complete heatpump conversion of our house for that kind of money and the camera won’t keep us cool the right way during heatwaves :)

lol!

It's certainly not the Hassy that I lust over, but they are certainly pricey cameras!

I'm quite annoyed that they may have great autofocus now. I price out a kit at least once a month. I have no reason to own one, other than they're cool.

I don't think there's a risk of the brand dying now. It felt like it could have 4-5 years ago.

I hope the software team leveraged the existing DJI codebase for their LIDAR support. I’m very curious about the coverage, it would seem a big chunk of the lower left portion will get blocked by the lens…

Yes, the location of the rumored LiDAR sensor looks like the same location as the colour temperature sensor. Which struck me as odd and a little unworkable.

That's why I wondered if it was just a "CR0" and someone running away with the rumor, but it gave me a chance to talk about LiDAR and cameras and that's always cool.

Better than talking about the R100 ;)

This video takes a look at all the pictures in the filing: https://youtu.be/mhjOcrh887w

He makes a compelling case for lidar and the colour sensor moving to a different spot. But the proof of the pudding is in the eating, so we’ll need to wait 2 weeks for the proper announcement.
I see where they are saying the colour sensor is, but damn, that's really close to the lens mount, and that's still a relatively small opening for a LiDAR.

But .. it'll be interesting - I doubt, though, it will be as good as Canon / Sony phase detection in all circumstances.

I’m somewhat in the same boat when it comes to giving Hasselblad a leading role over Canon—though not when it comes to heat pumps :) However, I’ve just jumped from the R6 Mark II to the R5 Mark II, realizing that even the Hasselblad X2D can’t fully replace Canon. It’s not just about focal range coverage, autofocus tracking, speed, or macro capabilities—it’s also about file size for every need. I already own the X1D II, and it still beats the R5 Mark II in image quality, though I do hope to upgrade to a used X2D one day.
