How do you format a number of SD cards

When getting ready for an event, how do you format a number of used SD cards.

For example you have 5 sd cards at hand and 2 bodies 6D and 70D.

1) Do you insert each sd cards on 6D at format them one at a time?

2) Will the formated cards from the 6D works on the 70D?

3) Is there a easy way, safer way and best practice?

Thank you.

It really does not matter which camera you format them in, a regular format does nothing but mark the files on the card as available to over write. A low level format erases the card more completely. You can use them in any camera, I've yet to find one that cares where the card was formatted. A exception is large SD cards over 32 mb. Only certain cameras can handle those.

Thank you.

How about using windows.?

(I know I could try it myself but I also want to learn why it can or can not done.)

Canon's operator manual recommends that the format be done in camera, including if it was formatted on a different device. Formatting on a different device can cause confusion with the camera, especially with different operating systems. It only takes a few seconds each card to format in camera and maybe 10-15 for a low level format, although it isn't necessary to low level format every time.
