So I'm saving up for the II and was wondering how much I could get away selling my 24-70mm L I for since they're discontinued. It shows some wear but still works pretty good.

Depending on the condition, used ones have been selling pretty high, as much as 1500 dollars. I only paid $995 for mine new a few years ago, so the prices have went up.
You will get more selling it on ebay, but you also have to pay fees. If you have a good ebay reputation, and the original box and accessories, $1400-$1450 is common. You should always be able to get $1100-$1200.
If you can sell it for $1250 locally, you will come out ahead.

I only bought mine in January of this year, so it's one of the last manufactured (date code: UZ11xx so Nov 2011) and I would not accept one cent less than 1250 euros for it cos' Harvey Norman have it for €1599 In Stock and nobody else in Ireland has it new. I saw only one advert this summer (and I've been checking every day) and it was a 7-year old Studio copy (being sold by a Pro) and he was insisting on €1300 No offers!

I know the supply and price is different Stateside but these lenses will likely become highly sought after. There are eBay sellers in South Korea looking for 1599 (before import taxes etc.) for the EF 24-70mm f/2.8L USM mark I!

Bottom line: don't sell yourself short, advertise with a high figure then be prepared to come down 100-150 bucks, or, alternatively put it up on eBay with 'No Reserve' - you will easily get 4 figures for it.
