This year we will se two new bodies:

3D: High MP (40+), slow FPS...
5Dx: Low MP (22), faster FPS...

That way canon will have a product for both niche markets! ;)

you sound like the nikon guys about the D800s....at 16MP and fast fps. doubtful.

22MP niche market? you ate something bad. There is probably more 5DII shooters than anything else but rebels. certainly not niche. The 3D is the scapegoat of every canon board. It is like the nikon D900 lol. just get over it, it isn't real. this site had some credible leads that it is 22MP and that's where it will be at IMO.

In case of bodies:

1.) I think that there will be one high mpx camera + I assume it will be the 4K with RAW video (which was also patented). It will be low fps, fewer AF points, video and studio focused camera. This could be 4000-4500 USD.

2.) I assume it will be something like posted 5D-X or however it will be called. Light prosumer body with good AF, around 6 fps, +-22 mpx FF sensor, great high ISO and around 3000 USD as price tag goes. This will not be a direct competitor to D800 (fewer mpx, less fps, possibly no RAW video).

3.) I think there will be a Rebel body. Not sure about specs. Maybe they just bump new processor in it and 24 mpx sensor (but currently 18 mpx is enough).

There is, for sure, market for another 2 FF bodies. If they divide them like this, they will definitely profit from this.

4K video needs no more than 12mpx, actually if you put more mpx it won't do it any good. Just like in still photography. If/when Canon releases its "Video DSLR", it won't (or shouldn't) have a high megapixel count.

And as for RAW video... not even the C300, a camcorder made by Canon for filmmaking, which costs $16,000, has it. I REALLY don't think a $4500 DSLR that can also shoot video, will.

I've read this a lot of times in these forums, super high megapixel count and 4K video don't mix! Just like raw video and low end cameras.

well not to mention, RAW video isn't something you can really store in CF cards given that they'd fill up in seconds not to mention they wouldn't really be able to keep up to begin with. this sounds more like a teenagers night dreams about hot girls than actual camera bodies....

Its very nice that Canon has some of the best cameras on the market. However, I am interested in buying the 7D, but not a 2 1/2 year old camera. The sooner Canon releases the next iteration of this Camera, the sooner I and many many others will jump to buy it. The very long lag in releases must mean Canon has some real delays in their ability to invest in a more current release.

Does anyone see a FF sensor in the 60D price range/build quality range. Or am I the only person working on a family budget, not making money off of images who even knows that there is such a thing as a FF sensor? I don’t need video, but I would like a FF sensor in a budget friendly body. Maybe there are not enough people like me for Canon to care about. After the 5d mkii is retired, why not take the 5D mkii sensor and throw it in a cheaper body, digic 5 processor, subtract video and boom. Nikon has nothing to compete in that price range – no one does. Probably will never happen. I will just have to pick up a used 5d classic from ebay

I think everyone dreams of the day that canon puts out a cheap economical FF body... But really, does having FF really make the difference in a camera's image quality? My answer is no. If canon put out a cheap FF body, they would have to trim down all the other performance aspects of a 5DmkII for example. In which case, the image quality from such a camera wouldn't be impressive at all by our perception of what a FF image "should" look like. My point is that everyone views the FF sensor as being the only contributing factor to the images that current FF bodies such as the 5D and 1Ds/Dx produce. In reality, there is a lot more in play when it comes to producing spectacular image quality. So, I'm sure it's not that Canon doesn't care about people like you, rather it just doesn't make sense to put a FF sensor in a cheap body. It might be that a cheaper body simply cannot fully utilize the full potential of a FF sensor (thus the crop sensor was used). So if canon put out a cheap FF body, I probably wouldn't buy it knowing that the 5D and 1Ds/Dx image quality is the benchmark for FF standards.

Well, sometimes I get too caught up in obsessing over details of sensor size, lens resolution and a bunch of other stuff that doesn’t make a lot of difference to making beautiful images. I should just be happy with what I have. I have a good, basic dslr and 2 nice lenses. I can make really nice images with what I have. Sometimes the engineer in me just wants the very best.

We all do, it is the nature of being a consumer. I am in the same boat, somewhat. I want the latest and greatest because I have some money saved up, but I have to think to myself, do I really need to waste it all in one shot or should I get a generation behind and save some money for other gear (grip, CF cards). I am shooting a 40d right now and had my images in the Art of Photography Show , but I realize that full frame is the way to go if I want to continue.

I am not saying, don't upgrade because that is up to every individual and their situation, I just don't believe one small tweak/function doesn't make or break you if you already know how to do it. Photography is all about give and take.

Good Luck!
