Had the opportunity to play with the MK3 today at a pre-release presentation from Canon NZ

It is AMAZING. I'm going to need to spend hours reading the manual, it's that big of a step up from the MK2. Wasn't allowed to put a card in it, but combined with the new 24-70II, the focus in low light was staggeringly good (couldn't figure out how to enable the single point in the moments I had it, so couldn't test outer points).

Official pricing for NZ is out tomorrow, and the rep confirmed release in NZ will be next week! Sooo excited, and will be pre-ordering tomorrow as soon as the retailers get their prices up.

Also, it was confirmed that the 1DX will be able to focus at f8 with a firmware update, however the rep couldn't confirm ths for the 5D.

Pre-orders have been available, but because official pricing for NZ hasn't been released it's all been a case of 'yeah we'll accept your pre-order if you put down $1000'

Official pricing for NZ comes out tomorrow.

Oh, and it was also confirmed that there will be a kit with the 24-70II, which is definitely the option I'll be getting

5DMarkIII is great camera, no doubt there, but my hearts stays with 1Dx.

Now that is a very interesting piece of news, if it turns out to be true (not doubting you, just not sure about the rep you spoke with, and how much they really know vs. make up on the spot...).

The new 24-70 felt quite a bit lighter and less bulky than the current one. It's not as long when fully zoomed out (extended). Unfortunately they've changed the hood so it now attaches to the barrel part that moves, rather than remaining on the main part of the lens and having the barrel move inside it.
