Also, it was confirmed that the 1DX will be able to focus at f8 with a firmware update, however the rep couldn't confirm ths for the 5D.

Now that is a very interesting piece of news, if it turns out to be true (not doubting you, just not sure about the rep you spoke with, and how much they really know vs. make up on the spot...).

The rep knew the answer to the question on the spot, they definitely didn't hesitate with the answer. I haven't named the rep or their position as I didn't/don't want to incriminate, but suffice to say it wasn't just a salesperson, it was someone pretty high up in Canon NZ professional camera division.

Did I also mention I played with the 1DX (also very very nice!), and the C300 (what a strange beast that thing is, doesn't feel like $20,000 to hold!) :)

Also saw some of the new IS primes, but not much to say about them, they're pretty boring hehe.

Ok fine, but that's one person's unsubstantiated word (theirs, not yours, of course). In another thread, someone mentioned being told by a Canon rep at Focus (big UK trade show) specifically that the 5DIII has AF point-linked spot metering, whereas the published specs say the opposite.

So, while I hope they've added f/8 AF capability, I'll wait for Canon to provide that information in a spec sheet or other written format before getting too excited. It's nice to have some hope, though, so thanks!

The Canon reps I talked to this weekend had not yet received their training with the 1DX and seemed a bit frustrated. In contrast they were comfortable with the 5D and had just recieved full field training on it. They watched the 1DX like a hawk. By the way if you try to insert a card or open the body a diepack goes off and the unit starts to smoke as the electronics go. :-)

I asked them "is that grip the $600 one I've been hearing about"? Well it wasn't & I've never seen men look so flabbergasted. With other people around they didn't want to talk about the price. Well my bad.

My assumption is the 1DX is not quite ready for market yet.
