Is Your Canon EOS R5 Mark II Autofocus Affected by the Latest Firmware?

Nor anything about the battery issues...
I am very disappointed, I was expecting a real answer to real problems. This firmware is a bad joke!
Using Canon cameras for a long long time, and you don't know if they fixed an issue and did not include it in the summary. A reason I have always upgraded the firmware, and to date I have never had issues. If I had issues that others are not having, I would send my camera in to Canon Canada.

Did you mess with the AF settings at all? I feel like mine would have tried locking onto a different subject partway through that.
I do have the camera set to release "pink menu" Servo 1st image priority" is set to "Release" not to focus.
When I track a bird and am on it, I don't need the camera set to focus as I want the camera to react as soon as possilbe.
Even my Nikon friends that shoot fast birds have it set to release as fast as possible. :)

I have Tracking sensitivity set manually to the 1at notch to left of center "-" side, and I keep Acceleration in the middle for most shooting.
Something coming at me, and I have the time to change settings I may push that to the right a bit more than default "center".

I use single spot auto focus point with no tracking so it acts like my older dslr's did, with tracking on the back button.

Always considered my self as a flight shooter, and I practice on the pigeons while shooting falcons as they are faster and more eratic.

With Swallows and using the R5 Mark II and RF 100-500 I normally turn off the IS, and depending on the lens you may be using some people should try turning off the IS. While using the EF600mm IS II, I set my IS to mode 3 so that it only comes on when I press the trigger.
No need for the Image stabilizer to be trying to stabilize the image while the lens is moving in different direction which is not necessary.
I also don't find any reason to use eye detection of birds flying in the sky. Never had that option on DSLR's and for some strange reason the eyes were always in focus. Go figure...

Practice practice practice...

I have installed 1.1.1. on 2 cameras, no issues at all!
But, before installing firmware, I'd strongly recommend to copy the camera settings on the CF, otherwise settings will all be lost!

Installed 1.1.1 on Saturday and used the R5mkii all day Sunday for cricket finals so a good test of AF and battery performance. Whilst AF was constant and accurate I did encounter random Er70 messages, which appeared on the rear screen as I lowered the camera from my eye after shooting a burst of shots. However, the message disappeared as soon as I put the camera back up to my eye. It happened a few times during the morning session, so I eventually pulled the battery and replaced it and for the rest of the day I was error free.
Battery life was decent considering I was virtually covering every ball bowled and the camera was constantly focussing with the tracking engaged. I managed well over 6000 images at short bursts of 20fps before needing to replace the batteries after around 4 hours of shooting. Focus was accurate and pics mostly sharp other than those due to user error.

Were you using the new E6-LP battery or an older/3rd.party one when the error message occurred?

Using 2 new E6-LP batteries fully charged.
I own 3 LP-E6P. 1 discharges very quickly while the other 2 last at least twice as long. Battery 1 was once "thoroughly" checked with the camera by Canon Europe.
"Everything is ok"...
Maybe issues like the one you had were battery-related since -subjectively- there seem to exist differences between them.

This is out of topic but can I take the chance to ask it the specific LP-E6P battery exhibited the "low temp" issue too? There could be connection...

I discovered a ‘feature’ of the R5II AF just now: it will focus on the reflection in reflective sunglasses, not on the frame of the glasses. With f/2 and 50mm, that makes the face come out very blurred.
Very happy to have AF-ON set to spot-af, no tracking and use the upper lip as focus target :)
