Hello experts.

I just bought 24-70II and Zeiss 15mm. Both will reach me from USA on 19th. Am excited!

Various reviews mention that they had 'issues' with their 24-70 II. What procedures do you recommend for me to check if the lens is working properly? I have never 'checked' a lens before so all advice is appreciated.

Regards,

Sanjay

Just another quick point: I am talking about sharpness and not vignetting. ;)

As Neuro and other memebers mentioned before, use LiveView(LV) Vs Viewfinder(VF) to compare sharpness. I found this method very usefull.

1. If LV is sharpner than VF, then AFMA is needed.
2. For 24-70 II, try to compare it to 70-200 f2.8 IS II around 70-75mm. Sharpness should be tiny more or less

I'd use FoCal pro. Even with a manually focused lens like the 15mm, you will be able to analyze the sharpness at various apertures. This is often a indication of issues, if the lens does not perform as expected at various apertures, and it will do a great job on the 24-70L as well. They keep adding more analytical tools to FoCal, so its a great tool to have, and gets better. Its only been for sale since the first of 2012, but its already very popular.

Just take pictures with them... Not much else you can do. Honestly, you have a warranty so if something goes wrong you get it fixed.

My first 24-70 II though had a decentering issue going on. Right side was far softer than the left near infinity. Swapped out for a replacement and it was perfect across the frame. Sadly, it is at Canon now for another issue... Discovered hairline scratches INSIDE the front element, along with one on the outside. It was brand new... Definitely look like manufacturing defects though, and Canon must agree... I called the CPS line and they confirmed they have parts on order they are waiting for to repair it.

No harm no foul though... Stuff happens... As long as they fix it I will have no problem with it. I LOVE this lens.
