I may or may not have a broken lens.

I used the 100L last night and took a few pictures without any problem. I left the lens on the camera. When I picked up the camera today, I could hear elements in the lens loudly clanking together. I took the lens off of the camera and could see through the back aperture something moving. I mounted the lens back on the camera - after it focused on an object, it took a picture that looks like it focused ok and it is no longer making a clanking sound.

I tried calling Canon Support but they aren't open on Sunday. Is this normal or should I pursue this with Canon Support tomorrow?

Thank you in advance.

Did you power off the camera, and if so, did you do so just after a shutter half-press? The IS elements remain active for a few seconds after a shutter half-press, and if you power off (or remove the lens) while they're active, they don't 'park' and will rattle and clank around inside the lens.

I can't remember to be frank. I was too freaked out when I heard it rattle to remember the last settings I used. Your explanation sounds like it may very well be right - I've been able to take a few shots and haven't seen anything wrong with the images.

Thank you.
