I thought I saw mention of a lightroom version that you buy....like the $119..version
.... and it does not expire....
no more updates ...but does not expire.... just for the gear that existed when i bought it...

somehow I thought it was mentioned in this forum..
and Adobe does not mention it ..but is available

and what are alternatives

well that is what I was asking about $9.99 permonth/or prepaid for the year... a year contrac t

then it stops working
///////////

as I understand it...
i run 5.7.1... the last version where you get to keep it and run ...forever.
and process dng files.... a little les convenient...\
and no new featuers..
so I thought you could get a 'permanent' version... in a one time purchase..

You aren't exactly correct in what happens when you cancel the subscription. It doesn't stop working entirely, just parts of it (e.g. you can't develop anymore).

Regardless, standalone versions are indeed available. I don't see any sales ($119) at the moment, so it's the new regular price of $149 (used to be double that). Also, you absolutely get updates within the version.

thanks for this info....
so this $119 or $149 standalone version continues to work... no contract for it?...
and I assume no updates...

I see now..at B&H I can get a dvd... $143....
with whatever cameras are current on that dvd...

what if
I have 5d4 5dsr and 1dx2

how do I know they work?... I guess the trial... but thats not the dvd...

I likely wont get any moe cameras past my 1dx2..
but lens correction updates?...

just want to understand adobe marketing before I buy the wrong version/setup/format...
I dont mind paying.. I just dont want to deal with them again...unless they update a new lens ..or add ..for my version.. a new feature..
or fix a bug...

the 1dx2 makes great jpgs and dng converter works.. but a few new features may be worth it..to me..

thanks for this guidance...I am grateful for the help.
I sort of quit paying attention to adobe when they started the gym membership theme...

Yes, it is a perpetual license.

You'd get updates within the version (6.x), but not to the next version (7.0, or whatever they call it).

thank you so much....
that's what I will do... but maybe see what bodies are covered...
if it does not/will not..6.x .. cover 1dx2...I have no need for it..
this is my last camera

Yes, it is an unlimited version and yes, it works with the 1DX II files (that was the only reason I upgraded to lightroom 6).

As for the updates: you will get updates for lightroom 6, but you will NOT get all the new functions as the lightroom CC version gets with its updates (e.g. the new dehaze function).

Actually you can get crude access to dehaze in LR6 standalone by downloading a free pack of presets:

http://owenbillcliffe.co.uk/lightroom-6-1-standalone-dehaze/

(a more direct link here: http://www.proloststore.com/products/dehaze)

Also, for any fellow UK people who are looking to buy the standalone version but having difficulty finding it (Adobe haven't made it easy):

Thanks for those links!
That's a nice enough workaround.

a bit off topic, but can someone explain how that dehaze actually works?
