Is the R10 the best we’re going to get? How does this compare to the R50V? I don’t really need video so it seems silly to get such a video centric unit. But I want something small and compact for traveling with the family. I’ll probably keep the 28mm on it most of the time for ultimate portability.
I always need an EVF. Depends what you need.
The R10 ist good.
The R50 was what I did choose. (R6m2 is my main camera)
+ cheaper
+ smaller
+ same sensor and AF
- smaller; contradictory, I know. But you'll have to try out, if it fits to your hands
-- only the new flash hotshoe, but no cheap/small flash to combine without adapter (the AD-E1 is DOA, IMO),
but the built-in flash was enough for me for travel so far
Apart from the hotshoe, I didn't miss anything.
More and more often I take the R50 with me instead of the R6m2, because I like the small size.
For both cameras consider the SIGMA 18-50mm F2.8 DC DN as standard partner. I did so. Great, small, well built standard zoom lens, IMO.
For both cameras consider at least 2 spare batteries, because the LP-E17 is a bit weak for EVF cameras.

I like the RP/R8 with the 28mm, but you probably wouldn’t.
I had the R100, which is the same size as the R50 (both slightly smaller than the R10) and, while it is effectively a smaller camera than the RP, it is so just lengthwise, the difference is mostly the hand grip. The smaller camera is still as deep as the full-frame and that, to me, makes it feel mostly the same dangling around, just less comfortable to hold in my hands.
I had the R100, which is the same size as the R50 (both slightly smaller than the R10) and, while it is effectively a smaller camera than the RP, it is so just lengthwise, the difference is mostly the hand grip. The smaller camera is still as deep as the full-frame and that, to me, makes it feel mostly the same dangling around, just less comfortable to hold in my hands.

That’s fair, but I suppose one of my unasked questions that I meant to ask is: are there any rumours of new tiny photo bosies coming down the pipe?
I assume this was to say “isn’t good”? If so, really?! I thought it was the one to get. Will have to do more research comparing it to R50.

I hoped for something like the R50V would be the R50 II. After the announcement I bought the R50.
When you look at the rumors here, the R6mk3 and R7mk2 are closer to a announcement than anything else.
Maybe there will be something in 2026, but late that year and not early. As we haven't seen any rumors about Canon APS-C consumer cameras.

As the R10 and R50 are so close to each other, I'd recommend to go to a store, take them in your hand.
See if you need (!) that bigger grip of the R10.
Think, if the R50 hotshoe is a no-go for you (I'm still hoping for Canon to get their speedlite lineup sorted out).
If the R50 ergonomics work for you, you can save some money and put that into the Sigma for example

Considering how small and compact the R8 is, I would say that it is the most versatile compact camera. It's full size 35mm sensor and amazing image quality...I'd give the R8 my vote.
