Haven't seen this discussed yet, but wondering if the 5D MK III will be able to take the LP-E6N. Seems the only difference is the LP-E6N has 200mA more juice, and I am suspecting Canon looks at the battery in firmware, but wondering if in the future with a firmware upgrade, the 5DMK III will be able to take advantage of stronger and likely longer lasting batteries from the 7D MK II

Where did you get the 2000mA spec for the N? It's not even listed on Canon USA site. I share lintonis' concern about 3rd party batteries.

We need someone who has used the new battery for 1D X (LP-E4N) in a 1DsIII, 1DIII or 1DIV and can tell if it had a longer life compared to the LP-E4.

There is a earlier post about the new battery, the LP-E4N has a higher capacity as well as circuitry changes. The LP-E6N will work in all cameras that used the LP-E6, the LP-E6 will no longer be made now that a safer battery is available.

That wouldn't be a directly useful comparison: the LP-E4N is advertised as having an additional 150 mA·h capacity over the LP-E4, while the capacity for the LP-E6 and E6N is advertised at 1800 mA·h.

You're right, and it practically makes this thread irrelevant. It seems the only difference in LP-E6 and LP-E6N is in charging setup as per regulation changes. I wonder where this titbit came from?

LP-E6N on the 7D MK II

Hi all,

I read/heard somewhere (can't remember where now grrr) that the 7D MK II will also accept the 'old' LP-E6 batteries, and not just the newer higher capacity LP-E6N. Does anyone know if the reverse is true? Would the LP-E6N work on a 7/6/5D?

Also, given the likelihood of the 5D MKIV probably having the same new battery, what do you think the chances of it also accepting the older LP-E6?

Re: LP-E6N on the 7D MK II

I had the same question and got this reply from Canon Pro Service.

Thank you for contacting Canon product support. I understand that you have questions about the LP-E6n and LP-E6. I can address this.

The LP-E6n and LP-E6 use the same charger. However, regarding backward compatibility of the LP-E6n with previous models that use the LP-E6, additional compatibility information is still pending.

Please feel free to contact us with any other questions or concerns. Thank you for choosing Canon.

Sincerely,

Trevis
