Miscellaneous Wildlife

As acorn season kicked off in September, a CA Ground Squirrel had begun pillaging a Black Oak tree and in the process was breaking off small laden branches. This Merriam's Chipmunk was making the most of it.

I went there with a big basket: expecting Curlews and Albatrosses... Returned home with photos of Horned Ghost Crab (Ocypode cerathophtalma) digging/cleaning it's sand burrow (and no single bird!!!) .
When going up on the pile with the load of sand it was moving relatively slow. Going back to the burrow - very fast. Actually I did read somewhere they can run as fast as ~2 meters per second!
Every time it appeared out of the burrow it was taking a time to check the surroundings. After ~10-20 minutes these lags got small - obviously it accepted me as a part of the landscape :)! Appearing loaded, running up the pile, uploading and going back in the burrow.
