I enjoyed the read, and there were some lovely photos in there.

I'm hoping to pick up a 5D3 tomorrow, but will have to wait a while before I can afford any primes for it. The first will probably be the Sigma 85mm f/1.4, since I can't afford the Canon f/1.2.

Why don't you get the Canon 85mm f/1.8? It's an awesome lens.

Why don't you get the Canon 85mm f/1.8? It's an awesome lens.

The Sigma is a much better lens than the Canon f/1.8, although it's more expensive (nearly double). But then the Canon f/1.2 is *more* than double the price of the Sigma. So it's a nice balance between price and performance.

There is an excellent review on The Digital Picture which compares all the 85mm models (including the Zeiss) which is worth checking out, although since I see you have the f/1.2 you don't need to because you already have the best.

Much appreciated I'm really looking forward to seeing what the camera can do. Fundamentally, if I was always shooting in good light I think my 5dii could do pretty much the same, but as soon as the light goes down the focussing and sensor are in an entirely different league.

Having gone from a camera where I was only just about happy with ISO3200 to a camera where I'd happily use ISO8000 is quite a significant jump for me.

I still think the audience that benefits most with this camera are wedding photographers. In that I feel pretty lucky...! (and if I'm honest - pleased I'm not with Nikon. I know I wouldn't want 70Mb RAW files to contend with :S )

Seriously though I love the 5d3 and it's been a slightly agonising journey for me to get it as I've tried to decide what I want. I'm now totally sure I chose right..

In fact I've been mulling over the idea of getting a second one later in the year and running both at the same time. Not decided yet..

I rushed out this afternoon and bought a Sigma 85mm f/1.4 lens to go with the 5D3 I bought yesterday... now I feel like I have a great combination for portraits. My 24-70L goes nicely with it, but it doesn't have as much 'flatness' as an 85mm prime. I can see why a lot of people say their 85s hardly ever come off their cameras.

The 5D3 is continuing to exceed expectations; the only issues so far have been a 'hot pixel' - nothing much I can do about that - and front-focussing (with all of my lenses). I'm working through the AF adjustment menus to resolve this.

I cam e from a crop body (40D) and the 5D3 has given new life to my 85/1.8 and 135L. In fact, I bought the 135L 1.5 years ago expecting to only use it on FF but the 5D3 took its sweet time being released so I stuck with the 40D up until March 22nd ;D

It's LR colour and luminance noise reduction... I think luminance was set to 35, which is 10 more than I usually go to. I seem to remember I upped the colour noise reduction too, but I can't quite remember.

All my files are processed from RAW.

It was ISO8000 as well, in case that's not obvious I forgot to write it on the file lol!
