My first results with the Canon 100-400 II

I have the new Canon 100-400II now for about 1 week and so far, the test results are excellent.

The lens also takes the 1.4x extender with hardly any negative effect on the image quality. below is a shot with the 1.4x extender.

1DX, 100-400 II + 1.4x, 1/160, F8, ISO800, 560 mm

Nicely done, Mario.
Nice indeed. It looks well with 1.4x.

I ordered mine two weeks ago and still waiting for the next batch.
I can't wait trying it for outdoor hockey. Pond hockey is coming to Montreal on February 7th, but not sure if it will get here on time.
Thanks for sharing.

Nice shot !!

I keep reading some folks are having trouble with IQ using the 1.4 on this lens. Then, we see shots like this and wonder why? I'm having NO trouble with it, nor with the 7D2 as some claim. Very puzzling to see this, and then to read some negative comments, and wonder how it happens. I can't imagine buyers all get a bad camera and a bad lens and a bad extender, and then get bad IQ ? Weird ...

I love this lens -- it's even better than I had anticipated and hoped -- I have a very sharp (good copy I guess?) of the V.1, and really waffled on spending for the V.2 -- but, it's worth every dollar.

Yes, a bit heavy, but that's what it takes to get the job done. At least we can cut down the gym time hauling this one around all day. :) :)

No idea why some don't get good results with the 1.4x extender. I don't see any significant difference in IQ when using the extender.
The only thing that bothers me is that I only have the center AF point at F8, I am used to fiddle all the time with the AF point position to get it on the eye of the bird. That's why I want to try the Sigma 150-600 Sports too if it evers come available in Belgium. But I'll keep the 100-400 II anyway as it is the perfect combination (without extender) with the 600 mm when out in the field.
