New lenses?

Just a passing thought...
The current Canon lens rebate was extended until Feb. 4th, which is great. But could this be due to slow production of a new lens? And if so, is it more likely that Canon will release a lens that is NOT an update/same specs as ones on the rebate list?

Another thought is that Canon might introduce some new lenses just before CP+.
