Wouldn't that be an non-L all-around lens for full frame bodies (EF)?

We have 18-200 on EF-S and EF 28-300 L, but nothing in the middle. A EF 28-200 with IS on 6D/6D2 would be an interesting setup for travel.

It'd be like the EF-S 18-135. I'd be on this like my cat on a seafood buffet if it came out in IS STM form.

Didn't Canon say that they would be introducing new lenses with focal lengths/ranges that would be a departure from the past?

What is the point?

To give DSLR owners a "one stop" lens that has a 7x zoom.

For all of those people that don't want a DSLR because you have to change lens all the f'ing time.

Canon makes lenses that have a 10x zoom ratio (and a red ring) for a very long time.

But for full frame bodies, the only "option" for an all around is the EF 28-300mm L.

EF-S 18-135mm on a crop is equivalent to 29-216mm (1,6x crop factor).

So, an 28-200mm EF lens makes a lot of sense, since on the EF line up there is nothing similar, and IMHO 135mm isn't enough on FF bodies: EF-S 17-85mm on a crop it's equivalent to 28-135 on a FF body.

Canon had a 28-200 EF lens back in 2003, when I got my 300D, but it lacked IS & I never read any good reviews on the lens. This new lens, if it comes out, will definitely need IS.

That's right, there were two, both introduced in 2000:

EF28-200mm f/3.5-5.6 and EF28-200mm f/3.5-5.6 USM

I definitely see a market for an new 28-200, but with IS like you said.
