Dont jump all over me, but this built in neutral density filter you guys are talking about... is it an actual glass filter, or just a software algorithm that desensitizes the sensor by a few stops? I know there are filters for the computer that can faux simulate certain filters, such as in photoshop and tiffen... If it's just a software "filter" it doesn't have to add bulk, depth or anything... Heck I think some of the older cameras already offered "filters" that similated warming, cool, sepia, etc...

These are some features I think Canon can incorporate in the pro bodies with a full frame sensor

1) Capability to select the different crop factors with in the full frame sensor
2) Inbuilt variable neutral density (the technology exists and is available in C300)
3) Inbuilt graduated neutral density feature

What do you all think about the above features and any more features you want to add?

...

@ 1): Would be really nice just for crop cams to have a "tele converter" for taking photos where the full resolution is not needed. I would like to see that feature just in the 60D and 7D for video (as implemented in the 600D): Using 1920 x 1080 pixels from the center of the sensor for video. My 5.6 400 would transform into a 400 x 1.6 x 3 = 1920mm lens ... FULL MOON!

@ 2): Put that into the DPP software of canon.

My additional wishlist:

4): Heavily increased REAL sensor dynamics. The 11 or 12 bit provided now, only at base iso, are not enough for extensive tweaks of images. Especially for a three stop graduaded neutral density treatment.

5): A control ring around the lens bayonet base, a direct shutter speed ring (engraved), a direct ISO control ring (engraved) and a direct exp comp ring (engraved) for -5 - +5 LV compensation.

6): An additional universal power input like 8 ... 28 Volts DC for videography with different power sources.

And that in a package with reasonable compactness and speed - 2 or 3 pictures per second should be enough.

That's my wishlist so far ... back to film like exposure ranges, back to direct controls and a hassle free power supply method.

Best - Michael

True, some of the old cameras offered these features and the new cameras also have these features but through selecting the right white balance or setting up a customized white balance, but all this tweaking happens in the software after the image is captured.
Imagine having control to set ISO level independently for the various sections of a sensor.
lets say we break the sensor into 3X3 sections (to follow the 1/3rd composition rule) and have control to select different ISO on each one of the 9 sections independently or break the sensor into two sections top and bottom or left and right and being able to set different ISO levels for each section independently, there are lots of possibilities to adjust and take a best possible resolution for a picture.
Also I think this could help us get the best dynamic resolution for a particular picture.
