Keep shooting with the 60D and 400 f/5.6L. Maybe buy a used 7D and put the $2K-used7D$ in the bank, and start adding to it for The Big White, or take a trip. I am looking for a big improvement over the 60D, something with improved sensor as well as improved AF relative to 60D. I have GAS but I have to confess that I love my 4 year old 60D. If I do get a new APS-C, I might consider converting the 60D to "60Da" eventually.
New photo equipment won't make me a better photographer without a lot of other effort added. Getting out and shooting, and then critically examining the results , is more important. I am working on improving fitness, camping and winter camping skills, and perhaps renting a big white this fall to practice on the fall migration, with the goal eventually to go to the "spring" crane migration in Nebraska. "Spring" in quotes, because if you rent a blind, you have to go in during mid-day, and stay until the next mid-day, without heat, without stove, and they recommend that you have experience in winter camping in below 0F temperatures. I am a summer/fall camper, accustomed to temperature lows of 45 to 50F. I added a 15F bag to my gear, to supplement the 50F bag, bag liner, heavy duty space blanket, and Z foam sleeping pad that has been my system. Also added the sinfully cozy Big Agnes Q-core insulated inflatable sleeping pad - the thing is a brick to carry, but at the end of the day you are sleeping on 3 to 4 inches of toasty air, good for fall camping as well.

I want to see what Canon is going to do with their sensors. If there is no path forward I will probably begin to move slowly in a different direction. I will continue to shoot with my 5DIII, lenses and flash but I will not invest any more in Canon gear. Early next yer I will buy my first mirroless camera and begin to grow into that universe. I do a lot of photowalks, street shooting and walk around stuff so getting lighter is something to look forward to. The Sony A7R is nice, but the I'm really torn between the next offerings from Fuji or maybe the Olympus OMD-E1. I generally shoot between 24 and 20mm full frame so it will be really nice to buy some excellet , fast prime lenses that don't have a comma in the price tag

Olympus OM-D. Oh wait, I've already got that! Pentax-K3... that'll work. Realistically, I'll most likely just curse Canon for missing the mark and continue using what I have.

My plan B was a 5D3.... but your plan C sounds even better. I think I'll pick some more bar oil and sharpen up the chaindstppy said:

My "plan b" was the purchase of a 5D3 in December 2012. No regrets, especially since I'm slowly moving over to the mirrorless world now.
