Hi there.
I today have a 1D mk III, and a Samyang 14 mm f.2,8. But i am thinking of getting a lens that is almost as good as Nikon 14-24 f.2,8. Canons only option here ( in my mind ) is 14 mm f.2,8L mk II. But i would desperatly wanted a fleksibel wide angel zoom in the area 14-24 or even better 12-20 or so.
So why dont Canon come up with a good enough zoom that can compete with Nikon 14-24.
Because of this issue. Im thinking of moving over to Nikon. But i would rather stay with Canon. And if they do come up with a really wide wide angel zoom. Then i would by that and get myself a 5D mk III with it so i can develope myself further into the art of photography

I would expect that Canon has been unable to discover a optical formula that meets or bests the Nikon, and is practical to manufacture for a price we would pay. Their marketing folks undoubtedly have a say about pricing and sales volumes at a given price.

Discovering a good optical formula is far from trivial, I think Canon computers work night and day trying to find something better. When they do, it will happen after a couple of years of development, so it might be in process now, we have no leaks or way of knowing.

Meanwhile, I'd give a long look at the new Zeiss 15mm lens. Its pricy and manual focus, but I think it will be spectacular. Only $3K, such a deal :)

If wide angles are really important in your photography, the D800 combined with the 14-24 looks like it will be a winning combination for high detail wide angles. I've nothing against picking the best tool for the job, if I can afford it.

My thing is low light, so I'm looking at that aspect.

Im maybe a little odd. But i need the autofokus on wide angles. Also need it on Fisheye Lenses. So for me today if im not changing to Nikon is the EF 14 mm f.2,8L mk II thats closest to my heart
