This week of innovation and new prototypes from Canon have brought a flurry of rumors into our inbox. All of it comes from unknown sources and some of it is quite fun.

It’s Friday, I figure I’d share some of things we’ve received during this very busy week.

The Return of APS-H

We’re told that Canon will reintroduce APS-H and slot it between the EOS XXD line and the EOS 6D. It won’t appear in a flagship body like the EOS-1D Mark IV.

CR’s Take: Never gonna happen. The APS-H announcement this week is likely for security technologies, as Canon stated themselves in the press release for the 250mp APS-H sensor.

EOS 7D Mark II Firmware Update for Touchscreen

We’re told that the next EOS 7D Mark II firmware will add touchscreen support in the next firmware release, version 2.0. In this communication, we were told that the Dual DIGIC processors caused issues with the touchscreen working.

CR’s Take: The omission of touchscreen on the EOS 7D Mark II had nothing to do with the DIGIC processors, and everything to do with durability according to Canon.

Canon PowerShot SX70

We were told a PowerShot SX70 was on the way, it would have a focal length equivalent of 24-4800mm, that’s a 200x zoom.

This is the image we received for the camera, can you see anything wrong with it? (Click for larger)

CR’s Take: No doubt that this camera is coming one day, but this isn’t it.

EF 14-24mm f/2.8L on the way

We’re told that Canon will introduce a 14-24 f/2.8L lens in Q1 of 2016, it would be lighter than the Nikon equivalent.

CR’s Take: The introduction of the EF 11-24 f/4L killed any chance of a 14-24 f/2.8L. Canon will instead update the EF 16-35 f/2.8L II, which is a much more manageable and usable lens than the 14-24 or even the 11-24.

Happy Friday and enjoy your weekend, and please remember, everything above is very likely to be untrue and this post was for entertainment purposes only.
