This week of innovation and new prototypes from Canon have brought a flurry of rumors into our inbox. All of it comes from unknown sources and some of it is quite fun.

It’s Friday, I figure I’d share some of things we’ve received during this very busy week.

The Return of APS-H

We’re told that Canon will reintroduce APS-H and slot it between the EOS XXD line and the EOS 6D. It won’t appear in a flagship body like the EOS-1D Mark IV.

CR’s Take: Never gonna happen. The APS-H announcement this week is likely for security technologies, as Canon stated themselves in the press release for the 250mp APS-H sensor.

EOS 7D Mark II Firmware Update for Touchscreen

We’re told that the next EOS 7D Mark II firmware will add touchscreen support in the next firmware release, version 2.0. In this communication, we were told that the Dual DIGIC processors caused issues with the touchscreen working.

CR’s Take: The omission of touchscreen on the EOS 7D Mark II had nothing to do with the DIGIC processors, and everything to do with durability according to Canon.

Canon PowerShot SX70

We were told a PowerShot SX70 was on the way, it would have a focal length equivalent of 24-4800mm, that’s a 200x zoom.

This is the image we received for the camera, can you see anything wrong with it? (Click for larger)

CR’s Take: No doubt that this camera is coming one day, but this isn’t it.

EF 14-24mm f/2.8L on the way

We’re told that Canon will introduce a 14-24 f/2.8L lens in Q1 of 2016, it would be lighter than the Nikon equivalent.

CR’s Take: The introduction of the EF 11-24 f/4L killed any chance of a 14-24 f/2.8L. Canon will instead update the EF 16-35 f/2.8L II, which is a much more manageable and usable lens than the 14-24 or even the 11-24.

Happy Friday and enjoy your weekend, and please remember, everything above is very likely to be untrue and this post was for entertainment purposes only.

All in all,-and then some! -- one thing is true: we live in exciting times!
Keep them lens-development rumours coming and I am looking forward to the next 2 years of Canon tech rolling off the shelves and into my camera bag. :)
'Waiting to here about a white/grey 135/1.8L IS USM BR! 8) (a little more differentiated from the 70-200/2.8 and 100/2.8L...)
Cheers all

Nothing to exciting at least for me.

Wishes:
- A white FF body
- a white 40-200 f/4.0 L IS USM BR with great IQ with the size of the 70-200 f/4.0s
this would be GROUNDBREAKING and perhaps possible with the BR elements
both with IP67 weathersealing. White for radiation "resistance".

Than I would sell some stuff and would be able to decide for a 16-35 f/4.0 IS USM ...

This one is not...a rumor...oh sorry, that's dark side! Lol, couldn't resist ;D

Looking forward to anything Canon beyond the development anouncements...! And I am sure, we soon get more exciting news!
Because if version II remains with these issues...hmm...

"A Raw file is a Raw file, right? Well, not exactly. Lately, there's been a lot of talk (and a lot of anger) about the compression Sony uses in its Raw files. Compressed Raw files aren't uncommon, but they're usually compressed in a way that retains all the original 'raw' data from the sensor."

Everyone who owns a smartphone knows there is no issue with durability of touchscreens, so this has always been nonsense. However it does seem unlikely that my 7D2 secretly has a touchscreen which has never been enabled - for Canon to go back on their previous claim, however nonsensical it was, would make them look very silly.

The update 2.0 for the 7D2 will add another AF mode to the camera.... squirrel mode!

It was more about a different covering on the LCD screen that was more durable than what is used on other Canon DSLRs that do have a touchscreen. This type of cover cannot currently be used for a touchscreen.

I've also killed enough smartphone glass/digitizers without much effort.....

That 14-24, if able to take filters, sounds reeeeeeeeally cool

It would not be able to take screw in filters.

Please give us a/some reason/s why not ...

I don't think anybody has made a wider than 15mm for ff coverage that doesn't have a bulbous element.

I also believe people make far too much out of the thing, I have three bulbous element lenses, 15mm fisheye, 11-24 and TS-E17 and I don't find them difficult to work with, indeed I can get filter solutions for the second two off the shelf .

certainly a wash of weird rumors lately.

however before the 70D came out there was a rumor around six months prior that promised some new sensor technology that was dismissed. at times the vague rumors may have some truth - or canon is just messing with people's minds and seeing where the leaks are in the company.

We're missing at the very least something with respect to: SL2, 1Dx Mark II, 5D Mark IV, 6D Mark II, 80D and now this 120MP monster.

That's alot of cameras.

canon really only did two cameras this year the rebel and the 5Ds...pretty lightweight considering the year prior they only did the 7DII

My apologies, my wording wasn't comprehensive enough.

I should've said if it can take screw in filters or Lee's 100mm system.

I personally would love a 14-24 f/2.8 L but I don't think it'll happen

There are probably 50 businesses here locally keeping very busy replacing smart phone screens, I think they would tell you that touch screen failures are feeding their families. How many failures are due to the touch part is unknown, but the touch screen in my iphone 5s failed.
