ordered at 1:19 EDT today - I will again post if it ships today

going backpacking in Canyonlands in 10 days and plan to take 24TS II, 24-70 2.8II, and this lens (if it ships in time) plus the 1.4XIII and a 5DMKIII body - only thing missing is the 11-24

Do you have a mule to carry all that equipment I'm old and can barely carry a camera and one lens.

I actually cut down considerably on kit versus my last trip to Canyonlands when I took the 16-35 II, 70-200 2.8II, 1.4 and 2X III, 24TS II and 300 2.8II + gitzo and RRS full gimbal head. I'm 54, but train with a 60 lbs backpack, so a tripod and this kit will be OK. I would rather suffer a little on the walks than kick myself for not having the right equipment.

But, I can certainly understand those who prefer a lighter pack.

In Switzerland it's arriving in limited quantities in shops over the last month or so. checking toppreise.ch some shops seem to have it in stock. I got mine on a sale (wasn't in stock on the day of sale, but it arrived about a week later) for 1800 Swiss Francs (~1800 $). Canon Switzerland has also 3 years warranty special offer at present.

God dang it. I saw this in the morning at school and when I got home it was gone. Adorama says they are getting them soon, so I am checking their website every day.

Ordered mine by phone from B&H on 12/31 (they were out of stock, but issued my invoice that day at my request (year-end booking expense)), and received it a couple of weeks later.

It truly is an excellent lens for the money, as demonstrated by the shortage of inventory everywhere. I hope everyone who wants one now will be able to get theirs soon.
