I will not be upgrading to the t6i, I was hoping.
I definably would be upgrading, if they updated with the new technology.
I guess I will wait to see if the t7i will have the feature.

It's been available with absolutely every camera ever made.

From the tone of the original post here I gather that a smartphone type implementation of multi-frame panoramic stitching done in software by hardware that requires minimal operator input rather than a method that requires thought, planning, knowledge, skill, experience and post processing is desirable.
Well, OK then.

Dig a little on this site, find some of Sporgon's stunning panoramas.
I Expect it will be a while before that level of excellence will be technically possible to implement in a point and shoot.

Yes I know taking "panorama" is possible with any camera ever made.
It looks like you know what I am talking about though. "Sweeping Panoramic" It is a CAMERA FUNCTION ! -- I will NOT buy a camera that does not have it. this is almost 2017, the technology has been out for years now. COME ON CANON !!!!

Besiers never being as effective as doping it yourself the claim we often get that "even phones have it" is rather misjudged I would say. Surely the big issue in creating these kinds of panoramas in camera/phone isn't the sensor/lens/af that dedicated cameras may have an advantage in but rather processing power where they most likely do not.

Er, my Canon S30 had it in 2001.......

You don't need a custom shooting mode now as the software is vastly better, it comes on the software disc with the T6i, it is a Utility called Photostitch. Just take the pictures open the utility and let it do its thing.

If you can't use a CD you can download it from Canon. Here https://www.usa.canon.com/internet/portal/us/home/support/details/cameras/dslr/eos-rebel-t6i-ef-s-18-55mm-is-stm

If you want it all 'in camera' you will be happy with a phone version anyway so save your money.

I have shot a LOT of panoramas.

I have a phone that does sweeping panoramas, it sucks in comparison to taking dedicated shots and merging in post.

I have a P/S that does sweeping panoramas, same thing!

When I process a multi shot panorama at home, it needs a computer with 16G of memory and takes about 15 minutes of processing time to render it.....no camera has the resources required to do a great job of this...... Sweeping panoramas are low quality panoramas....

That said, I am surprised that they don't have them in live view mode.... Perhaps it is to come in some mirrorless implementation in the future, but at least for me, this is most certainly not a deal breaker.

Seriously? You won't upgrade because they don't have one smartphone feature that is basically just as easy to do - and gives you much better quality - with any camera and free software? In other words, sounds like you want a toy rather than a high quality camera that gives you much higher quality and many more options than a smartphone can. Of course, that is totally up to you - but don't blame Canon for making cameras rather than toys.

How many shots? AND this is with a 5dsr, correct? I've been toying with the idea of getting one, but if that's the case, my MacBook pro is going to need a new friend too apparently.

15 minutes? You must be doing some serious stuff! How many frames?

My biggest one (final crop dimensions 23273 x 6631) rendered in a couple minutes on a laptop. Granted, there is a lot of black to it, assembling something the same size with more details in need of alignment (like a forest scene) would likely take longer.
