Two-in-one extender

Good Morning - is anything known yet about the two-in-one extender?
An extender for - no magnification - 1.4 magnification and 2.0 magnification

Nothing more known, plenty of speculation to rehash.

IMO, a 1x-1.4x-2x is unlikely. For that to work, the 1x would also need optics and the whole thing would be massive and result in some IQ loss even at 1x. The patent diagram on which that speculation is based is for a simple video adapter, and the diagram was taken out of context and wishfully over-interpreted.

A 1.4x-2x design seems more likely, and was the subject of another patent.

The rumor indicated the ‘amazing new TC design’ (whatever it turns out to be, assuming it even happens) was to launch with the RF 200-500/4, and we haven’t seen that lens yet.

It’s an Olympic year, Canon could make a splash by launching an R1 along with a 200-500 (without the built-in TC) and a new combo TC all in one go. They’ve been quiet so far this year, with nothing announced for CP+. That might mean they’re planning something big (the R5II is likely coming, too), or it might mean nothing.
