What will be the next Super L show off lens?

If they continue with portrait style lenses, a 105/1.4 or 135/1.8 would make sense, but Sony/Sigma/Nikon already have those. The lenses on their own might be 'wow', but not a first. Canon could fill in the wide end with a 24/1.2 and 35/1.2.

What I'm dreaming of (and won't be able to afford) is Canon announcing the high MP version of the R and going "Oh, btw, here's an RF50/1.0 with working autofocus to go with it. Enjoy!"

That would really be something!

And will the new lenses get a DS variant like the RF85?
You know, I thought I was going to have a little bit of buyer's remorse for not waiting on the 85mm DS. Then I went and looked at Canon's photos on their website and decided I like the non-DS version better. Just a matter of taste. Not saying one is better than the other. Both are very nice. I do wonder whether there will be a premium on the DS. The article says the price will be higher. According to Canon, the DS version loses 1.5 stops of light transmission and it can't be turned off because it is a lens coating. The effect is lost as it is stopped down, but that is true with all bokeh on all lenses. So with all that, I'm thinking I made the right choice for me.

24/35 F1.2? 14-21 F1.4? 100 F1.4?
I could really go for the 100mm f/1.4, but would prefer a f/1.2 ;) Really wishing I had a home to put a second mortgage on. These lenses will still be great in 15 years when my grandson gets old enough. He already follows me around with an old Yashika Electro. It is the one toy he is very careful with.

Yeah, a 180mm entrance pupil/front element would certainly be insane.

A 250mm e.p./front element would be even more so.

Oh, dear, I must have read too much HarryFilm posts ;-p

I'd like to see are fast budget primes with IS, like the RF 35mm f/1.8 IS, e.g. 24mm, 50mm, 85mm, and 135mm.

An ultra wide prime, e.g. 10mm, would be welcome as well. Not being an astro afficianado, I wouldn't mind it being as slow as f/5.6. An RF replacement for the EF 11-24mm f/4L would be welcome as well.

As nice as that would be, I sincerely doubt it based on the cost of the RF 50 f1.2 and how much work it clearly took to develop.

On the flip side, I've noticed that prices for used EF 50mm f1.0s have been dropping like a rock recently, probably because the new RF 50 makes it look like an even softer lens than the EF 50 f1.2 did. :cautious:

I will still probably never get rid of my EF 50 f1.0 because of what it is, but it sets in its case more and more ever since I got the RF 50.
