Why not a Canon EF 12mm f/4 or 12-20 f/4.5-5.6 zoom?

Have been revisiting my trusty Sigma 12-24 for some added drama to everyday shots, and wonder if Canon would ever entertain a similar really wide fixed focal length or similar zoom range? Considering that a 14/2.8 is pretty common these days, I would think a 12/4 is not that much of a stretch. Just thinkin ...
 
The interview with Canon pertaining to their 16-35mm f/4 indicates that they have a new process for manufacturing lens elements, so it might be something that can now be done and meet photographers expectations for quality.

They can go all out with a high priced lens, or use plastic elements like the 11-18mm ef-s and make them affordable.
