The Canon EOS R6 Mark III will be the next full-frame camera from Canon, and it will be a massive launch for Canon. Things have been fairly quiet about the camera for the last couple of months, but it was rumored to be announced later this month.

We currently haven’t heard any update about a launch date, but if it is indeed coming at the end of May, things will probably become clear in the next little bit. However, it doesn’t feel as though the EOS R6 Mark III is imminent.

Another claim of specifications has appeared on Weibo, from a person with mixed success in the past. These are third-party specification claims, and we cannot confirm any of the information provided.

Pricing Hints

There has been a fair bit of price movement on the current EOS R6 Mark II, we’ve seen it as low as $1899 from authorized retailers recently. Refurbished cameras have been even lower over the last 6 months.

The EOS R6 Mark II currently has an MSRP of $2199, which is a permanent $300 price drop. There is currently a $200 instant rebate, bringing it down to its usual $1999.

Summary

These specifications are from a third-party, so we can’t confirm any of the rumored specifications above. There was no confirmation of when we will see the EOS R6 Mark III announced, but we and everyone else hope it comes in the next month or two.

We don’t think the current economic situation will affect the launch of the EOS R6 Mark III, though we were told that it could possibly delayed, we just don’t think that’ll be the case.

As always, these are rumored specifications. So, shake the saltshaker.

  1. I hope it will have sound record for high framerate videos!

Would be nice to have it finally on the market :S...
Built-in microphones suck anyway, why would you want it to be built-in in any case?
  2. That "Brand new 24MP sensor, stacked CMOS" could be one thing that'll make me change - if it is much better than the Mark II sensor.
Other specs would make me stay with my R6m2.
But I suppose, me and other Mark II users are not the main target market. 😉
  3. On the "pricing hints" part, there's not really some pricing hints for the mark 3 apart from recent price history of the mark 2
    🤔
Might be too early to try to guess a price tag before we have any certainty on the spec sheet anyway

    You are the main market.
There's no escape, you'll have to buy it! 😛
No, don't even think of arguing!
  5. I'm pretty sure that "new" 24 MP stacked sensor is a cheap version of the R3 sensor adapted for mass production at a scale that will allow the final price of the R6 Mark III to be as close to the sweet spot of $2500 as much as possible.

It might even have the same specs as whaat's in the R3 but they are just being respectful of the feelings of those who plucked $6K to purchase the original R3.
  6. Built-in microphones suck anyway, why would you want it to be built-in in any case?
Two reasons come to my mind. It's easier to record and sync audio from other devices without a clap board. There's always people making videos only by themselves; for such people it must be better to have audio that sucks than no audio at all.

Ok but you're arguing for a very niche use-case here. Imo if you do that kind of stuff, you should have dedicated hardware anyway

No doubt the R6III will have a multifunction shoe connection meaning it will work with Canon's DM-E1D microphone as well as the Tascam XLR adapter.
  9. Perhaps we may see a “V” version of the R6III with the R50V exterior.

What do you think the next “V” camera might be? Pipedream: R5cIIV (Roman Numeral Trainwreck).
  10. Built-in microphones suck anyway, why would you want it to be built-in in any case?
There’s nothing forcing someone to use a built in microphone, just attach an external microphone through the mic port or the smart shoe. You’re arguing for something you seemingly don’t use or need, but there are plenty of people who want the option to record audio in 120fps. I personally like to use it and find it nice useful.
  11. What do you think the next “V” camera might be?
If I had to make a bet, I would set my money on an R8 V or a successor of that R8.

    Pipedream: R5cIIV (Roman Numeral Trainwreck).
That "Roman numeral train wreck" made me really 🤣
About the pipe dream: better don't bet a cent on it.
  12. 6K 60fps is a surprise to be sure, but a welcome one nonetheless.

I initially thought they wouldn’t do it because they didn’t in the C80, but the Z6III is certainly pushing the envelope.

All these specs on a stacked sensor check all the boxes for me. Going to be an awesome camera for sure.
  13. And, just dreaming, they add a top LCD...🙄
As a migrant from a 5dmk3 to an r5m2, and heavy user of the top LCD on the former, I *never* use the top LCD on my r5m2. In fact, I find myself thinking Canon could do away with the top LCD for more programmable buttons.

I doubt this applies for the r6m3, but my experience with mirrorless cameras is I'm much less dependent on the top LCD with the information available in the EVF. Not saying anyone is right or wrong, just my personal preference.
  14. Ok but you're arguing for a very niche use-case here. Imo if you do that kind of stuff, you should have dedicated hardware anyway
I have no idea how many people use an R6 by themselves to make videos vs R6 with someone with dedicated equipment / additional people vs higher and lower tier cameras in both scenarios.
