“Hey that small flash you posted about before PMA will be a reality on March 25.”

It only makes sense to have a better small flash, but making sense doesn't matter. :)

  1. if they updated the 220EX to have a bounce head, they’d sell like hotcakes, but they’d eat into the 430EX’s sales.

that’s the only thing that’s keeping me from getting a 220… it’s ancient, non-bounce design.

  2. Well, it wouldbarely eat into the 430EX sales if it didn’t have a manual or slave mode.

Not to mention the 220EX isn’t as powerful as the 430EX, if I’m not mistaken…

  3. nowhere near as powerful, the Canon Nomenclature system for flash is the ### in front of the EX is the guide number in decimeters. For example the 580EX (I and II) have a guide number of 58m at ISO 100, @105mm. Personally I haven’t had success withbounce flash TTL, though bounce flash manual mode has proved very effective. I hope they add manual and keep the low guide number. Personally I would like them to put a slave mode in it as well, just so people who start off with an on camera flash can use it as a remote if they like flash photos and want to upgrade their main uinit to a 580EX II, though you correctly point out that this would eat into the 430EX sales, so I doubt that will happen.

  4. I’d like a small one just so I could have the AF assist beam/grid for low light shots with the 5D2.

Of course, swivel bounce head, manual controls and pc sync port would be great too. ;)
