Site Outage
Well that was annoying as heck.

For the first time ever, I didn’t actually break the site!

Very sorry about that.

T1/2000D
I can admit when i get bilked.

I got bilked.

None of my solid sources has said anything about the T1/2000D, I only received info from new folks. It didn’t work out.

This is the first time we’ve blown it for a release date. I won’t post anything about it until I get some more solid info from better places.

Rumors
I’m sorting out some site stuff and will be posting some new stuff in the next 2 hours.

Thanks for reading everyone, I really do appreciate it.

  • I don’t know why people send false information, this site is supposed to be a fun one, and they don’t earn nothing lying like this.

  • 1DMKIV

I dreamed the site was down because it was announced here first and too many people logged in the website to check out the amazing new camera…

    oh well.

  • Ya. Life was miserable without CR. He, he…

Anyway, I still have not figured out which ultra-wide and normal focus zoom lens to use with Canon’s FF camera. So, even if a cheap FF camera is available, I will probably not get one. ;) On the APS-C format, the choices are more straightforward: Canon 10-22 (or Tokina 11-16) + Canon 17-55 f/2.8 IS.

  • No dude… Thank YOU for writing the blog. It gives us regular peeps at least a glimpse as to whats coming down the pipeline so we can make more informed choices of purchasing equipment.

  • Thanks for your efforts, man – much apreciated. Sadly, I check in several times a day. Gotta know whether to get a 5DMii or 60/7/3D. Need to know what 60/7/3D is, and when it will be.

  • I kind of thought that CR guy had leaked something big and he had received a cease and desist notice. I remember when he almost got his site shut down for unauthorized use of a canon logo/plus a bunch of other dumb stuff the Canon folks didn’t like. But Canon complied and in the end they win, imho. Great work CR guy! Thanks for all the fun.

  • Odds are the good authority was Canon Rumors.

BTW, I notice a lot fewer scammer websites being served by Google.

I wonder if google has cleaned up their act, or if the New Your Camera scammers are just not up to speed yet after being forced to move out of New York to New Jersey.

  • Canon did announce a couple of new printers yesterday, so there was an announcement. As to cameras, there is likely a cat and mouse game going on between nikon and Canon. Each wants to announce after the other.

  • I agree even CR1s make it a bit bareable to wait for releases. Some of these cams are way outdated and need some fresh life.

    Your credibility is intact!

  • It’s a rumor site… I sure hope that most people don’t expect what you say to be dead-on, even if its CR3.

keep up the great work, and don’t sweat the wrong information. no one knows. perhaps not even the people in canon for sure.

  • Good to see you back :)
Regarding 2000D: maybe your sources were wrong and we’ll se diffrent AF than in it’s precedesor (assuming, that they won’t modify current version of 7-point AF so that it’s more efficient ;) ).

  • I agree with the others: the day was a bit more boring without the site. Thanks for posting, this is fun!

  • Good to see you back CR Guy! Sheesh, I had to resort to doing some work today, things were that desperate! ;)

  • It is possible that the rumor was credible but the announcement was postponed due to MJs death.

    Keep the good job.

  • You had listed as a CR1 so you have nothing to be bothered or apologize about.

  • FF Frame with crop does not make sense on a Cannon Camera.

It is available on Nikon cameras because the DX lenses fit on the full frame cameras so a automatic cropping feature solves the problem. The resulting low resolution image from the D700 is not useful except in a emergency, and not pro quality.

AF-S lenses do not and will never fit on a Canon full Frame. A cropping feature just would not make any sense at all.

The 2nd problem is that the sensor would need to have 21mp to get a 16mp 1.3 crop. This puts things back into the problem of high speed data flow for fast frame rates. And you would have essentially a 1DS Mark III but with high FPS for $10,000 or more.

  • Actually, Canon did make a new product announcement yesterday, a couple of Printers.

However, it could indeed have been their intention to announce a new camera, but held off waiting for Nikon’s new announcement.

  • The 16-35mm is equivalent to the 10-22 on crop, and the 24-70 is a similar range to the 17-55 IS. If you want IS, the 24-105 would be the closest.

The 70-210 (4 to choose from) is a no brainer, just pick the one you can afford.

  • I think the point, respectfully, is to have cropping on the fly for PJs who require the extra reach and who don’t have the time or the staff to do all the manual cropping. Not that they need access to APS-C lenses like 17-55 and 10-22. Those lenses, while good, are not matched by the full frame equivalents in contrast, tone, and contrast.

Data flow should be able to be taken care of with faster processor technology which Canon is/has developed.

  • +1 I totally agree with you

We love CR1 just to put a smile in our faces… but we are aware that they are probably wrong.

  • eh, performance I’ve seen is none too great, f-stop is limiting 4.5-5.6, and its still just as expensive as the 17-40

  • We all need a bit of rumor everyday to keep things interesting. I check your site almost daily to see if there’s some new Canon product to hope for.

  • Hm… it’s almost 12 hours since you last posted… not 2 hours as you suggested @_@

but that’s ok, you still rock! :)

  • Just curious : which other rumors were coming from the same person? “Lord of Darkness”? 60D?

  • Interestingly enough, when APS-C was announced, the choices for wide angle were not so straightforward and many preferred just wanting to use full frame. It’s still not a difficult decision, as shown below.

I’ll never go back to 1.6 crop. If I wanted that, I’ll do it in PS.

  • They’re vaporware or coming in a year. Just get the 5Dii and be done with it. I don’t regret it at all.

  • > AF-S lenses do not and will never fit on a Canon

    > full Frame. A cropping feature just would not make

    > any sense at all.

Never? When Canon launch a full frame without a mirror then there is no reason for not using EF-S lenses with cropping.

  • I currently have a 1.6 (40d), a 1.3 ( 1D MK II) and a full frame (% D MK II).

Except for wide angle, the 1.6 is very handy for longer shots, and has faster FPS than the 5D MK II. I use the 5D MK II and the 1D pretty much exclusively now. Somehow, a FF just does better wide angle shots even though you can get the same FOV in a crop.

I can crop the 5D MK II to get 8 mp 1.6 crop images, but if the new 60D has 15mp and high ISO similar to 5D MK II, It will be used a lot for telephoto shots.

Hopefully the 1.3 MP 1D mk IV will be something special and I’d get it over the 60D if I can afford it. A 15 MP 1.3 crop has a slightly lower photosite density that the 5D MK II, so it can be cropped.

  • I heard from a friend that Canon is releasing a new camera called the EOS 20D soon. It’s an 8.25 MP camera with a 1.6x crop. That’s all I know for now.

Been a long two hours just thought I’d post my own rumors while I wait :).

  • I know, especially considering the first amendment hasn’t been around for 220 years!

  • Get rid of those skanky sources who e-mail you their fantasy wishlists instead of real leaked info. Go with those with proven track records, and leave the CR0-class stories for very slow news days.

  • If this long 2 hours take a day. My whole life should have only 5 years left, LOL.
    I want G11 -_-“

  • do you think something like 28-200 2.8 IS would make sense for canon?

  • I’m not sure if you’re using Skanky correctly :P. Oh its all in good fun, fantasy rumors are just as fun to read. Gives me something to look forward to not getting. Haha.

  • D30…Classic. I’d sell the 10D and get a 20D. I think its going to be Canon’s little gem. Rumors of a new mid-level Full Frame camera called the 5D is out there as well…with no on-body flash.

I think this is an outrageous fantasy. Pshhh 5D, full frame under $4k. I cannot believe such a statement.

  • Tell you what Sleeping Dude. If they can make a 28-200 f/2.8 IS and it was as light as the 24-105L or 17-40L f/4 it would make sense to ME. And I would pay $2200 for such a lens. :D

I think some day there could be a 17-200mm f/2.8 IS that weighs as much as the current f/4 L lenses. Oh well, I’m sure that won’t be this decade…maybe not even next.

    I’d love that though.

  • Is that physically possible?? The elements are bigger than those for the f/4, so there would have to be fewer of them. f/2.8 zooms are always heavy.

  • It could be conceptually possible with the use of DO technology. However, a DO superzoom at 2.8 with good performance is likely to run like $4000 at a minimum, so not very practical, and it will still have some optical problems

  • Yea DOs are a bit soft compared to their counterparts. Well like I said though, maybe not in this decade…but maybe some day in the future?

*Conan O’Brien appears and says* “Innnn the yeeearrr twooo thousannnnnd”

  • I heard a rumor that the mythic 5D would eliminate the direct print button… I’d pay 4000K just for that.

  • @ CPS 08

Have you used a DO lens?

I rented a 400mm f/4 DO IS USM for a trip to the Galapagos and all of my shots are bitingly sharp. Wide open it easily outperformed my 70-200 @ f/8 or 11.

They are lower contrast than normal lenses though, I can say that much from my experience with 300mm f/2.8L lenses

  • The T1i/500D was announced 14 months after the XSi/500D. I would imagine that the T1/2000D will be the same which would be August

  • It is useless to announce a new beginner camera to be released after the summer vacations.
Anyway, Canon cameras are usually available 2-3 months after the official announcement.

  • My assessment: They’re gouging with the 500D in peak season before undercutting it with a cheaper model.

In any case it seems like interest in the 1000D has been pretty thin compared to all the attention the XSi and T1i get. I’d be curious to see sales numbers.
