2009 will probably bring an update
If Canon sat you down and wanted your ideas on what you want to see in the next 1D, what would you say?

As a user of a 1D3, which I think is a remarkable camera and competes very well with the D3. Having used both before buying one, I chose the camera with the better IQ below ISO 3200/6400. There were a few other factors that went into the purchase decision as well.

I've said here before, I've never had an issue with the AF.

My Wants in my next camera (yeah, I'll buy one)

  1. A 2nd joystick — For AF points selection when shooting vertically.
  2. Full Frame — I've gone back and forth on this, the only reason I want it full frame is so I don't have to get a 24 to replace my 35. There's been a few times the 35 hasn't been quite wide enough on the 1.3 crop. Would I be upset with a 1.3 crop again? Absolutely not.
  3. 12mp tops — Please, please, please! I'm happy with my memory cards and I'm more than happy with the resolution and print results from the camera. I'm not holding my breath on this.
  4. Quieter Silent Shutter Mode — It's quiet now, be nice to be Leica rangefinder quiet!
  5. Dual CF — I would use it, I never use the SD slot.
  6. Improve IQ at “normal ISO” — ISO 25,600 is fantastic and all, but if I have to choose where I want IQ improvements to go, it's definately in the 100-1600 range. This is where 90% of my shots are taken. I want the best sharpness, color and dynamic range Canon can produce at these ISO's. I do not want any of that sacrificed so we can have ISO 102,400. If they can do both…. I'm down with that.

What's not on my list?
For one reason or another, the following things I don't really care about.. or I expect to be on the next camera.

  1. Improved LiveView AF — The only time I've used LiveView is because I want critical manual focus done and exposure simulation.
  2. VGA LCD — It'll be on the camera, but honestly… I didn't find it of much use on the D3. I know if an image is in focus or not with a standard LCD. It's pretty to look at though, and by no means am I against it.
  3. More AF Points — I've never once wished I had more, I generally only use the outside ring anyway. What I do like about the 1.3 crop is the AF point spread coverage, I found the D3's AF points to be really crammed into the middle of the frame. If they do go Full Frame with the 1D, I'd like better spread.
  4. Movie Mode — Ask me about this after I play with a 5D2. I'm not sure how I'd work this into my business. Not so much would people want it, but how the heck would I do it and not miss great still moments? The other thing? I really hate editing movie files!
  5. More FPS! — 10 was fantastic when I am shooting sports stuff, more? Whatever… just more editing.

So what would you like to see?

  • I’m quite with you, but not totally so. Forinstance, I would set a hard limit on 12MP. I could live happly with 15MP or so too, but would also be about the upper limit for me. The only IQ improvement on low ISO values I’d care of would be an increase of dynamic range. Instead I’d glad to see a pushing of the limits of actually usable High-ISO. (The ISO 12,800 of the Nikon D3/D700 is a nice thing, but to be honest, I think it’s only usable as a “last resort”.)

To come the the FF issue, I’m not sure if I’d like to see that in a 1D (and I’m totally unsure if we ever will). Personally, I’d could image a yet to be designed EOS 3D with that: Fullframe sensor, somewhere around 12-15MP, 7 or 8 fps, an AF system somewhere between the 5D and the 1D, decent High-ISO performance and maybe an 5D-style body. I think I’d order one of those the day it gets announced. ;-)

  • I know Canon arn’t the best for releasing must have upgrades, but would what you’ve outlined be enough for most people to ditch the mk3?

How about a roughly 20MP FF body, that’d give a 12MP 1.3x crop, give a corresponding sraw/sjpeg for that mode and a speed bonus for using it. Dual digic 4 we’d probably see 7-8fps in FF mode, 12-13fps in 1.3x mode.

It’d be handy if the 5dmk2 sensor is up to the task ;)

  • I’d like to see a 50 MP sensor that is downsampled to 12.5MP. This may be one way to get the DR and IQ that we want.

This type of technology, IMHO is the future, kinda like quad processors on one computer chip.

I would find extreme high iso very useful. In good light, it lets one use fast shutter speeds, and, in dim available light, it makes photography possible that was impossible before.

Since the 1D II is first and formost a sports camera, speed is the thing. Higher ISO, faster auto-focus, high shutter speeds, high FPS. I’m somewhat doubtful as to the usefullness of movie mode, shooting HD video is pretty specialized, particularly editing it. Sure, TV stations have high end equipment to do it, but the right video editing equipment is much more expensive than the camera.

I use liveview exclusively in my studio for product photography, but for a sports camera, It would need a huge improvement to be practical. People keep wanting cameras to be do-it-alls, jack of all trades, master of none. The replacement should be a master of sports photography and not be a do it all camera.

  • 2fps slow continue mode, i don’t like the 3fps slow mode, even with cp-e4, 580ex II is not able to catch up.

better iso than nikon D3, but this is not a FF, so it is hard. see if canon could do it

cheaper, i hope it can be priced at D3 price/(1.3*1.3)=D3 price/1.69 or at most d3/1.5

automatically take photo on a time bases, maybe 3 photos per second until card is full

internal flash, i need this when go a casual hang out with my girlfriend or my families.

  • Wouldn’t hold your breath on the 12mp, the minimum you’ll see would be a 15mp sensor the mega pixel race is on weather we like it or not with demanding clients of today asking for a head crop out of a full body shot that’s the way the cookie crumble…

  • Fix the autofocus. Even though as a pro basketball shooter my market is small, i find it appalling that canon still hasn’t fixed the AF issues. I have 4 Mark III bodies, and all of them have been traded out, sent in, etc etc and still the same issues shooting sports.

Also its important to increase the dynamic range and iso performance, and not concentrate on the now defunked megapixedl race

  • An FF at 16.2 mega pixels with a 1.3 crop option that will give you 12.4 mega pixels. FF 16.2 for the photographers who need resolution and the 1.3 crop option for the sports photographers. FF at around 8 FPS and 1.3 crop mode at around 14 fps. Have an in camera IS on 1.3 crop mode. With a FF lens at 1.3 crop, there’s still enough space for digital IS with in the sensor. Dual lens and camera IS to work together and give 5-7 stop IS. A 4 inch VGA clear view touch screen. That will eliminate the buttons next to the screen and possible to see the pictures a lot better. And obvious lower noise and higher ISO. Interchangeable handgrips just like some handguns which gives each photographer their own handle.

  • I totally agree with the 12MP number… With today’s technology, it would be possible to make a new full frame 12MP sensor with much bigger, no-gap pixel sites. That would translate to dramatically better dynamic range and low-light/high-ISO performance. Think about ISO 25600 performance that looks like the current state-of-the-art 6400.

From what I can tell, the 1D user is likely to be a photojournalist or other high-volume shooter. Resolution is probably less important for them than getting the shot. This is in contrast with the 1Ds user, for whom resolution is a big deal. So it makes sense to me to bump the 1D to FF, but keep the MP down, resulting in a nice bump in sensitivity/DR.

I think a lot of working pros would flock to that camera…

  • For next 1D?

    1 Ds Mark 4 ( Fullframe 1.0 x )
    1 D Mark 4 ( 1.3 Mode )

    I want a 1 Dx Mark 4 :

1.6x mode, Dual-DIGIC 4, 16 Mp, ISO 12800, Duo Dual SD and CF, VGA LCD 16/9, HD Video mode on SD, Photo Mode on CF.

Compatible with all EF and EF-S.

  • I must admit I am very different to you. I want at least 16MP, good high ISO (up to say 25600), AF video mode, high res LCD, dual card slots are fine as they are, High frame rate, including a 20 fps electronic shutter mode good for one-2 seconds at full res, electronic shutter enabling flash sync at up to 1/8000.

In camera dust removal and masking system would also be good, as well as an 8mp small RAW.

By the way, to the guy who wants a 2fps slow speed mode, you can already customise your fps speeds in the Custom Functions.

  • I’m using the 1D Mark III and here’s my wish list for it’s successor:

    • I agree, it needs a second joystick for the vertical grip.

    • Canon also should change the unnecessary extra button-press to activate the AF-Point selection.

    • There is an option in the 1D-III to switch some settings immediately by pressing one button. Unfortunately this is restricted to just a couple of settings. I would like to have a totally free configurable “emergency” button, that switches the hole camera into another mode. Say from One-shot AF, center AF point, single drive, spot metering ISO 100, AV mode to TV mode with auto ISO option, Servo AF, multi AF point, matrix metering, high continuous drive mode. This gives the opportunity to react on suddenly appearing “action” scenes. A second press on this button should switch the settings back to the state before.
This, by the way, is an option, that a nikon camera couldn’t do in the same way, because of it’s many hard switches.

    • So far, I have no problems with the AF. It’s blazingly fast and precise. But I’m using the Center point most of the time, because Multi Point AF doesn’t give me the amount of reliability in recognising the correct part of the image. There is stil not enough “intelligence”.
So I’m hoping for a much better “Full Frame AF”, that covers (almost) the complete frame and is able to identify things. From this point the AF system should be backed up by “Eye Control”. That means: The AF system choses the focus itself, but as soon as the user presses and holds one dedicated button, it should track the users eye ball and follow it’s viewing direction. This would allow to focus on a single person within a crowd, without the need to switch to single point AF mode and to select the necessary AF point manually.
A “double click” on the dedicated eye tracking button should switch to this mode permanently. This way the manual AF point selection as it is now would be almost superfluous.

    • I really like like the “artificial horizon” function in the Nikon D3. But it’s somewhat a little limited. It would be nice to have a real HUD in the viewfinder that shows a slim line, that follows the horizon horizontally and vertically. Like in a jet plane.

    • 12-14 MP is way enough. But a dramatic increase in sensitivity and “per-pixel-sharpness” is almost welcome. 16 bit is the logical next step, as well as I know that this doesn’t bring “more” colors, but it’s necessary to take advantage of a higher dynamic range.

    • Full frame or APS-H? I really don’t know. Maybe a full frame sensor with about 15 MP and a crop mode (not lower than 10 MP) is the way to go.

    • I really like optical viewfinders. No doubt about it. But to get rid of the loud and slow mirror box there should be a significant change in development. This is also valid for the shutter. Do we really need this mechanical part any longer? I’m not a camera developer, but I think Canon should find a way to replace the shutter with an electronic equivalent.

    • My next big wish is about the file formats. And this is something that needs the cooperation of all manufacturers. RAW is nice, but additionally there should be a better JPEG. Maybe a chance for HD Photo (JPEG XR). It would be nice to have “ready to use” files like normal JPEGs, but with all the additional advantages of a RAW, like lossless compression OR lossy compression, color depth up to 32 bits, transparency, lossless altering of white balance, exposure and so on.

    • A better flash/lighting system

    • A better display

    • Maybe an optional, external mobile high resolution EVF/Display that can be attached via HDMI or wirelessly. With controls for tethered shooting without a notebook or PC, with hard disk, to be used as a photo tank/image viewer.

    That’s it
    … so far.

  • I agree with some, disagree with others. I’m a photojournalist, which is the reason why a switch to the D3 is inevitable, unless PMA shows a new 1D. I doubt that will happen. I never used a 1D Mark III, only 1D mark II, so I do not know if the AF issues are a mass hysteria over the net or real problems. But I know that I do need a useable high iso, at least 3200. Apart from that, there is no reason I can think of that puts Canon behind Nikon. Keep in mind that 1D is not a studio camera or a movie one. In my opinion, Canon should keep it that way. Although having 1Ds and 1D competing both against the D3 is not an option either.

  • I actually like the CF/SD option we have today. So many computers have an SD card reader in them but don’t have a CF card reader. Especially given that I’m shooting a 1D2, if I don’t have a card reader, I don’t want to copy more than one or two shots off it (USB 1.1… you can tell the difference immediately).

  • 1. Support Eye-Controlled Autofocus again – I like this function and use it often in EOS-50E.
    2. Support Multiple exposure.

  • I’m a PJ and have had the AF issues on both bodies i’ve had. So obviously sort that issue out.

But after that the 1D needs to go full frame. I wanted the mkiii to ditch the 1.3 crop. A lot of colleagues use the D3 and i’m always bemoaning the fact i can’t get as wide with the standard set of zoom lenses i carry.

Plus i’d disagree on the iso comparison. The D3 is considerably better at 3200. As someone who is constantly shooting in dark conditions a useable 6400 as in the Nikon is a must. If it can go higher than even better.

I agree with the second joystick, if the D700 grip can have one then the top end Canon should too.

Personally i’d welcome the video mode. Its an increasing part of a photojournalists job. To be able to do it reasonably in one camera would be very helpful.

And it needs to be here at the start of the year not the end. Or i will have switched to Nikon by then.

  • This items are already on this big list and i’ll repeat them: :-p

-Improve AF. AI FOCUS and AI SERVO.
they fail A LOT getting the perfect focus.

    -1.0x crop

    -Improve A LOT ISO performance

    -better metering.

  • “automatically take photo on a time bases, maybe 3 photos per second until card is full”

This will be great for sport photographers. Another I want is radio ttl flash trigger, not by infra-red any more.

  • Larger AF spread is physically impossible due to the submirror dimensions. If full frame it would be no bigger than the 1Ds/D3.

For all the wildlife shooters I really hope they do not compromise on pixel density. This would equate to about 16MP in FF, and I’m sure it will be at least 15MP, either 1.3x or FF.

I used to think that lower pixel counts were the way to go, but after trying the 1Ds3 I have been left in awe by the files. Somewhere between the 1D3 and 1Ds3 would be about ideal, without the files getting too large to be manageable for a sports shooter/PJ.

Extra controller for the vertical grip is definitely necessary.

  • My wish list for the next 1D4 :

    15 Megapixel @ 1.5X , 10-12 fps and 20 Megapixel @ 1.0 X , 5 fps. Hate to carry 2 1D and 50D bodies.

Improved LCD and maybe 55 AF points.

Even better AF points although the current ones are VERY good already. No 1D3 AF problems for me.

Forget about movies. Get a Sony camcorder.

  • I´m pretty much with most of you guys, though I don´t own any 1-Series Cameras. But I did spend some with them and many other Canons besides the one I own. I dont really now about usability-things of course, but I think the next 1D should have:
    -15 MP max.
-Full Frame Sensor (wont be a problem with the 1Ds, remember the MF-rumours some time ago?)
-Movie Mode (not really necessary, but quite nice to have)
-really usable ISOs up to at least 3200 (no problem with FF and < 15 MP!)
    -higher dynamic range
    -new or improved AF
-virtual and thus customizeable grid lines to be projected on the focusing screen
-WLAN and/or GPS build in (or as a cheap attachment unit)
    -lower price :o
    -fast processors, i.e. 2 Digic IV´s
    -quieter mirror/shutter

Did I mention the better AF? That´s a huge key-feature which is not be messed around with, serious people take that serious.

  • SD cards are a deal breaker for me. If they go to two SD slots, I’ll go to Nikon (twin CF slots, like God intended). Canon P&Ss are SD, new Rebels are SD, if they go to SD on the xxD and 1Dxx, I’m out of here!!!

BTW it sure would be nice not to stuck with the effing grip, make it optional like the xxD.

There I feal much better. 8-]

  • Oh the perfect camera….

    – At least 1/500 of a second flash sync.
    – At least 36 frames in RAW + jpg mode (It should be minimum a roll of film)
    – Battery grip to get more frames per second (like the EOS 3 or 1V)
    – Auto focus in darkness
    – ISO 25 (it would be sweet to shoot speed blurs in open sun where you usually can’t go below 1/60 f22 without using a neutral density filter)
    – Auto focus points that are closer to the edges
    – 16 mp sensor with the option to shoot in 12 mp or 8 mp in RAW. (when shooting spreads for hi-gloss magazines the 12 mp so close but not quit there in my opinion. The 16 mp 1Ds was perfect size).
    – RAW and Jpg look the same straight out of the camera (maybe this is an Adobe Lightroom or Photoshop problem)
    – 2 crop sizes that can be seen in view finder (panoramic and square)
    – 100% viewing area and can zoom view 100%-400% without moving eye away from finder.
    – lighter weight
    – better dust reduction
    – IS in camera so combined with IS lens you get even better stabilization
    – RAW can be changed to DNG (digital negative) in camera
    – optional pocket wizard built into camera
-10fps like current 1D3 with option to change frame rate
    – dynamic range close to what our eye sees with different adjustable levels that can be turned on or off.
    – low noise and hi-ISO of course

    What else is there?

  • – At least 1/500 of a second flash sync.
    – ISO 25 (it would be sweet to shoot speed blurs in open sun where you usually can’t go below 1/60 f22 without using a neutral density filter)
    – Auto focus points that are closer to the edges

flash sync speed and iso 25 is very important to photographers

  • Embedded/integral GPS. This is an absolute must for journalism and forensics, and also for landscape shooters. All photos would automatically have a GPS stamp, just like a date/time stamp. The editing office would automatically know where everthing was shot. This would also eliminate always having to change the camera clock when changing time zones.
The other thing that is totally essential is integral voice memo. Jeez! Every $100 digicam has it!!! How’s the editing dept supposed to know what the shot is about, unless I shoot it with a $100 P&S or my 1D series. But what about it when I shoot with anything from a 450D to a 5D?
And while we’re at it what would ultimately be the best would be voice recognition that puts voice memos into caption and keyword IPTC fields. We are talking about existing technology here. Nothing new. But we need a camera maker to step to the plate and make some equipment that actual working photographers need.

One other thing. It is about time to put the viewfinder where it belongs — at the bottom of the camera (below the LCD instead of above) so I’m not always smearing the LCD and inadertently pressing buttons with my nose. I want the camera body in front of my forehead instead of my nose.

  • i’m a pj wedding shooter and my ideal 1D
    – smaller and lighter. Having the vertical grip as an add on accessory.
    – quieter mirror mechanism – or no mirror at all like the RS.
    – better dynamic range.
    – 12mb pixel. 16 bit color.
    – larger view finder.
    – view finder showing AF mode (one shot/AI servo) in use.
    – user selectable options of different level of noise reduction.
    – Full frame.
    – a less awkward way to open the memory card compartment.
    – the joystick can be used for navigating the sub-manual options (similar to 40D).

  • Full frame, 10fps.

We had that on film SLR’s, why not on dSLR’s?

A mount for a cable lock, like the kind that most laptops have. I would like the peace of mind knowing that my remote cameras are safe from theft.

  • As i cant afford a 1Ds, i would like it to be full frame and around the same price as a D3. No more than 16mp as im happy with the res from my 5D , so dont need much more.

Oh yeah, one more thing HURRY UP and do it Canon!!

  • I agree with the 12mp as long as they take their most current sensor on the 50D and 5D2 and actually give us the best ISO performance possible without NR’ing it. Getting 3200 or even 6400 clean and with no NR’ing would just be awesome and I feel many folks would pay big bucks for this. If you need 21 FF, get the 5D2.

  • Canon needs to introduce an APS-C sensor into the 1D line and deliver faster burst modes. You’d not only gain the benefits of the cropped sensor (better perceived reach from your lenses, no corner softness on EF lenses, etc) you’d have all the benefits of the 1D series… weather sealing, amazing AF, extremely fast bursts and great image quality. And chances are, they could make it a tiny bit smaller too.

  • Agree with much of what’s above, so here are a couple of extra things:

    – a one-button press to load meter settings into manual mode. Other manufacturers have this and I wish Canon would follow.

    – use the processing power and available info to show DoF information for current settings.

    – in aperture or shutter-speed modes, allow ISO adjustments to be automatically made between user-settable points.

    – differentiate the buttons more. The 1D3 added an aextra programmable button for focus activation but half the time I still hit one of the others instead when workign quickly. Make it larger and shape it to the thumb.

  • – use the processing power and available info to show DoF information for current settings.

Sort of like Adep mode they used to have. Yes, that would be nice.

  • – Better AF (offcourse)
    – Flash sync of 1/500 or higher!
    – 2nd curtain sync!!!!!!!!

even 8mp would be enough for me! if it has the features above!

  • Combination of previously mentioned things:
    * FF – as compacts have now reached much over the 10MP
it seems pretty obvious, wanted or not, that the next
1D FF has actually even more improved sensor of the
5D MK2 which leads us to the 21MP.
    * working new AF (I believe the current one works for many,
but still there are a lot of complaints, so I won’t
    take any risk here).
    * high speed second flash sync

Anything less than FF would be a deal breaker for me.

  • “12mp tops”? Are you serious? Shoot sRAW but don’t limit technology. The idea is not to print print larger but to crop better and smaller and still maintain a large canvas…

  • AF Fine Tune by different AF Point
AF Fine Tune by different AF Point

I found the tendency of Out of focus of different AF point is normally different

  • I want to see sensor based image stabilization option.

    Better dynamic range.

Even lower noise at high ISO.

    Full Frame Option

    16 bit color

    Swappable sensor.

More mega pixels in Full frame mode, but same in 1.3 crop mode, focus is instead on low noise and dynamic range.

  • Well, actually I would like an intermediate camera between the 1D-III and the 50D, without built in verticle grip. You wouldn’t beleive how many people use **D’s with 4, 5 and 6’s and teleconverters on top. They use them for focal length equivalent gains and the smaller body size.

Of course, from a product planners point of view, it’s easy to say “why don’t these people buy a 1D series”, but they need to remember that quite often these people use their body for all types of photography, so maybe their passion is birds, but also want to take the camera on holiday with them, take family snapshots, etc without carrying a slab of a body, which aside from the size/weight, is not particularly conspicuous.

So, as a non Pro, I would like a baby 1D (or a better XXD) with the following:

    Auto ISO:
    1) The ability for the user to set the maximum ISO it can use.

    2) I quite like the idea of the Canon system attempting to maintain a minimum shutter speed of 1/focal
length, as opposed to just using a static minimum shutter speed like the Nikon system, but it would be better if there was an option for the user to set auto ISO compensation. So, for example, if you are shooting slow moving subjects and you are quite steady with a camera (or maybe using a monopod), you could dial in an auto ISO compensation of -3 stops, so that instead of the camera choosing a minimum shutter speed of 1/320 @ 300mm, it would go down to 1/40 before changing ISO. On the other hand, if for example you are shooting fast moving subjects, you could dial in an auto ISO compensation of +3 stops, so that instead of the camera choosing a minimum shutter speed of 1/320 @ 300mm, it would select 1/2500 before changing ISO.

    3) Intelligent to take Image Stabilized lenses into consideration when working out minimum shutter speeds.

    AF points:
    1) At minimum they should have focus points at the common thirds points. The amount of focus points in between doesn’t particulary worry me as long as it can accurately track focus and you don’t need to scroll through them all to get to common focus points when not tracking fast moving subjects.

    2) To be able to recognise what you are tracking so that if you are tracking a fast moving object, the focus system realises what you are tracking and doesn’t readily jump to something else as quickly such as background or foreground. For example, if when shooting a bird in flight, jet fighter, or any fast moving object
that you are trying to follow for that matter, and the auto focus jumps to the sky, background trees, etc. momentariy, then it doesn’t matter how many megapixels
the sensor has because you lose the shot. Using the AE button to stop/start AF is not ideal. As far as I am aware, the 1D series has a custom function for this (CF.20) which allows you to change the sensitivity of the AI Servo tracking, but only delays it for 1 second on the slowest setting. Why not have scene recognition/colour pattern tracking to see what you’re tracking. It’s quite obvious if you have been tracking a subject for a few seconds that you don’t want to switch focus to a blank sky or a foreground persons head.
Also, if you are shooting a photo of a person at close range with a big aperture
lens, focusing and re-composing is no match for having a focus point exactly where you want it. In fact it can cause back-focusing.

Of course, a reliable eye controlled system where you could select the focus point anywhere in the view finder would be even better.

    3) Ability to autofocus at f/8 so you can use lenses with teleconverters even if it makes them an f/8.

    High ISO:
    1) Forget megapixels. Extra mega pixels are only worthwhile if Canon are able to retain the ability to keep noise levels lower than previous models straight out of the camera. The 40D was worse than the 20D/30D and the 50D is worse again. And yes, that is even true when downsizing the photos. Don’t forget, an 8.2MP camera can already print nearly 15″ x 10″ @ 240PPI, so extra mega pixels are only useful for cropping on this type of body (that is or course, if there wasn’t the problem of diffraction limited appatures and the strain on a lot of the current lenses on a 15MP APS-C sensor).

Why not have an 8.2MP sensor, with modern sensor technology to make noise 3 stops better than the 40D? So ISO 6400 would be equivelent to ISO 800 on a 40D

    Low ISO:
    1) Ability to use lower ISO’s such as 50, 25, 12, etc. , so you don’t need to use ND filters as much.

    File Formats:
    1) Ability to shoot DNG format straight out of the camera.

    View Finder:
    1) 100% like the D300 has.

    Joystick:
    1) Better feel, not so fiddly. It’s not the best for selecting focus points, as it can be a bit fiddly with the thumb.

    Flash Control:
    1) OK, Canon need to use light to get around radio transmitter regulations in different countries, but why not have a slot in the flash heads/body to allow you to insert a radio module for your particular country if you want it? They are only small (look at the Sekonic RT-32 radio module).

    Apperture Bracketing;
    1) Sometimes DOF can be difficult to judge on the fly, especially if you are using a big apperture lens. Also, below f/2.8 with the standard focusing screen, what you seethrough the veiwfinder is miles off. Why can’t we have
apperture bracketing for DOF, it’s only firmware.

  • Sorry. Had a blonde moment above. Auto ISO ammendment as follows:

“On the other hand, if for example you are shooting fast moving subjects, you could dial in an auto ISO compensation of +3 stops, so that instead of the camera choosing a minimum shutter speed of 1/320 @ 300mm, it would bump up the ISO to give you 1/2500.”
