1D Mark IV Announcement
August 24th, 2009 Posted in Canon 1D Mark 4
August 25?
The French magazine Response Photo says we should expect the next 1D on the 25th of August.
More Dates
One of our better sources still has September 1st, 2009 as an SLR announcement date.
Nothing is confirmed yet.

Sony has got both A500 and 850 up in their sleeves… (and possibly A550 and A800).
It’s a foregone conclusion that Canon will be announcing something soon… but what???
1D4? 7D? 60D? 2000D?

as posted several times before, i have the 100% valid info that there will be a 1D4 with video next month, but NO 7d.

Based on the previous Best Buy leak, there is absolutely NO reason to believe the 7D won’t be released.
So, there will be 1D4 and 7D… but no 60D? Sob, sob…

The Neutral Observer wonders is its APS-H or Full Frame. He just wants to know either way, he is tired of waiting.

Instead of Canon offering a DSLR camera model in a range of colours, they should keep them all black and provide an option to customise the badge numbers. They could charge for the option to make an extra buck; kind of like vanity plates on a car.
Think of it: they can produce one model and, by sticking different badges on it, everyone will be happy.
Nothing says geek-chic like a Canon EOS “42D”!

Now.. that would make a very appealing ‘do everything’ camera!
FF wide, sports camera speed! And a promise of bleeding edge ISO and AF!!
Wow… if I can afford, would make for a very good ‘do all’ replacement for my 5dii! …*yikes…!*

I have received the following information. Canon is just about to announce a giant, standalone direct print button.
– 1.78 gigapixel combination CMOS/CCD 8 1/2″ x 11″ sensor
– Fully weather sealed (except for fog and foul stench penetration, of course)
– Wireless direct printing to any device within a four foot radius with just 6 easy clicks
– Memory Stick Pro and 3.5″ for storage
– Gluten-free
– Rugged composite construction, mix of high-impact ABS plastic and the ground up bones of Nikon engineers
– 700 auto focus points, none user-selectable (3 or 4 will be cross-type)
– Built-in infrared-only projector (up to 320×240)
– Compatible with only the 1200mm 5.6 L lens
– Expected to retail at $4, available by Halloween
This is from a source that has been right about a couple of things, like the sun rising today and part of the world getting dark at night, but also wrong about a few things, like where babies come from (not, as it turns out, the Marianas Trench).

1.78 gigapixels total and 1.779228 effective gigapixels, to be more precise(TBMP).
According to Someone Called Th.H. (Thom Hogan (TBMP)), the button will be a joint product branded Sonikanon. It’s main purpose is remote infrared printing of dead pixel information retreived from Sony, Nikon and Canon bodies in the distance of up to 350 ft and report the pixel coordinates manufacturers via wireless transmitter over a secure ftp channels and to retreive back live map out updates.

According to another reliable source, Canon finally decided to replace the digit 1 in the name of new body with an underdash and call it simply _D, Canon _D.

Canon usually likes to play chicken with the competition. They just keep postponing announcements until they see what the competition offers. Then, if necessary, they add a few software enhancements and delay the delivery while more development takes place. This also lets them set their prices slightly less than the competition.
With the 5D MK II, they really threw a wrench in Sony and Canon’s pricing scheme, and as a result scuttled sales of the D700 and A950.
I think we will see the same thing with the 7D, priced $100 below whatever Sony offers.
Nikon may drop the D700 price to $2100 and put out a 24 MP D700x at $3,000 as their 5D MK II competition, but I wonder if they can make a profit at that price.

That’s not always true. Nikon played the same trick during their D300/D3 announcement and Canon lost out big time. Canon is now returning the favor. :)
Seriously doubt there will be a D700X release unless the D4X is ready for announcement. :D D300 did some serious damage on the sales of their D3. And Nikon is bleeding financially now (at least Canon is in the black by a small margin).

So, are we looking at an announcement possibly at midnight tonight (we tried that once… remember?) or will it likely come later on the 25th?

I doubt any announcement tomorrow. For the flagship product I would expect Canon would do a press event like Apple does.

[...] In the rumor mill some sources are selecting August 25 and even September 1 for the introduction of a Canon 1D Mark IV DSLR. Of course, there’s very little information supporting either of these but one never knows as indicated by Canon Rumors. [...]
