Where does the announcement of the T2i leave the 60D? Does the xxD line fall out with the 7D family taking its place?

    Yeah, where is 60D??

    Here's your answer Reply:

    T2i is $799. 7D is $1699. Canon needs a $1199 cam with video. That’s where the 60D comes in.

I’m comparing launch prices here. Street prices ALWAYS drop eventually depending on supply & demand.

Like I’ve said previously in older threads, the 60D is either dead or really delayed… Get the 7D if the 550D is not enough for you.

It could come tonight. Or it could be delayed. Dead? I doubt it.

Why wouldn’t the 550D be enough for you? From an amateurs standpoint the stats look verrrrrry similar to one another, but I don’t know that much about these sorts of things. What would the advantages of the 7D be? Please advise.

Not a comprehensive list by any means, but here goes:

    - hugely better AF
    - weather sealing
    - AF micro adjustment
    - perhaps slightly better ISO performance
    - 1/8000 s, not 1/4000s
    - wireless flash control

Only in the UK, not in the US or Canada.

It’s in the rest of the world outside of Japan and the US. (Canada?)

    John Pelican Reply:

Haha, yes, in Asia and Europe :P. If you want the Kiss X4 badge though, buy it in Japan.

    Scalesusa Reply:

It will be Gray Market, and have no USA/Canada warranty, so it might not be a good idea. Resale value in the USA/Canada will aldo be a lot less.

If you really want one though, there will be ebay sellers offering them.

Pre-order price is the UK is £899 for the 18-55mm kit. £799 body only.

The 50D is currently £709 body only or £999 with the 17-85mm.

The pre-order and launch price for new cameras is generally ridiculous in Europe as a whole. I still don’t know why some people over here MUST pay these daft prices just to be FIRST. The 7D (if I remember rightly) was about £1800 at launch and fell to £1250 within a month!

    Rod Reply:

Agreed. This’ll be £499-£550 by Christmas.

Must admit, when it does drop to sensible UK prices, i’d be happy to use this professionally for interviews and shorts along side the 5D2.

You can’t, but even if you could, It would just kill your old camera. (it has a different sensor and different buttons and LCD display, totally incompatible)

Now people don’t need to translate from japanese that “a single Digic 4 can handle both 24p and 60p”… do they?

Canon also took our idea of video crop mode…

Interesting, but what is Canon going to do with all 5D Mark II customers?

We’ll see in few days, if not enough, we might start a new campaign, because this seems to be a “funny” game to them, but not to people who invested thousands of dollars in Canon gear.

Too bad the video crop mode is some stupid useless resolution of 640×480. Would be much more useful if it was atleast 720p.

Right, reminds me of the excitement about the G11, only to find it didn’t have HD video. Huh? Makes you scratch your head. It is like some guys were sitting around the lunch room table and said, “Hey, we could…” and it seemed like a neat idea. I guess some private eye would appreciate it….

50D + video with 18Mpix at $1100 is my guess. 50D now sells for about $900. Change the sensor and slap on the same T2i video and sell it for $200 more sounds reasonable to me.

7D is a great camera. T2i reviews won’t even be out for months and who knows what they will reveal?

7D is still top of my list. Besides, it doesn’t matter what you buy, it will become old fast. Today the DSLR world is changing faster than the PC world did during it’s fastest growth period. This is a ground-breaking period for DSLR’s.

If you shot photos in the film days, you’d realize that you are saving a fortune on film and developing today, plus you get instant feedback and much faster learning as a result. By that measure, a 7D and a 5D are a bargain. I really wish I was just starting out, this is an incredibly great time to be a photographer/videographer.

18-55 IS lens teams up with a 18 Mp rebel T2i ??? This is clearly a case of marketing dictates ( read it as disregard) the welfare of the customer. the 18-55 IS lens cannot even meet the resolution of the 10 Mp 40D ( please see dpreview.com. Now they sell it with a 18MP camera. No wonder we end up with a 18MP APS-C camera that have almost the same picture quality of a 10MP camera.

    According to the email response

“There will be no 500D firmware updates”

I think this will be no surprise to the majority of 500D customers and I hear all the people who say “you choose to buy the 500d with its features”

I also understand if Canon did release a firmware to bring the frame rate up in 1080p mode and manual functions they would cannibalise some of their new customer base.

I just thought that some customers spend a great deal of time and money on lens and accesories & sometimes a little bonus keeps everyone happy.
