A comment from Adorama (in the comments of the previous post)
I apologize for any confusion or inconvenience that may have been caused.
At Adorama we were initially informed – by Canon – that delivery was expected 27th October, and based our subsequent information to customers on this.I am unable to comment upon what information was given to other retailers at any point during the past months.
However, as you are all now aware, Canon revised these estimates.
Sincerely

The more time that the “40D2” (or 5D2 or whatever) is delayed, the more there will be sales of the D700. Canon has no clue.
Nikon, just curious… and I doubt you will answer me. Do you actually work with your camera for a living or are you just a punk?
Jon my theory with Noink is that he is regretting buying the D700 ( if he really has one ) and he paid top dollar and now is pissed with the 5D II because it lowered the price of D700 down so much.
who cares what system you have. be happy with what you have, if the Nikon’s would feel good in my hand and have some decent lenses I might have bought the D700 and not preorder the 5D II.
I remind you Bodies comes and goes, Lens are forever. Plus, what are you going to do when the D800 comes next year.
so when is this camera actually coming out? I got mine preordered from adorama a couple of days it was released. I should stop by the store and check.
link us to your photos “nikon”, I would love to see your images of your dog! or those macro photos of flowers… Maybe images from your summer vacation!
Hey hey, Obama08! Now I feel insulted! ;-)
I support Nikon!
I also support Nikon and not evolution!
Nikon D700 was selling for as low as $2444.35 yesterday at Adorama using the Microsoft Live Search cashback program. When you spend $300 for the software that Canon supplies free, its only $44.00 more than a 5D MK II (You can preorder a 5D MKII for 2% off at some sellers (I’m not familiar with them.0
The price on the D700 is dropping like a rock. Its a very nice camera, but not selling. If you use it a lot, who cares if the value drops to $1500 in 6 months, but if you have it for occasional shooting, you will not like the drop in value.

I think i know who you are, you are Joseph Nicholas Spina xD
Ok. The Nikon D700 is THE BEST. Price is cheap, features more bountiful than the 5D2. Why spend $300 on software that Canon supplies free? All you need is Photoshop. So you don’t have to spend $300 extra.
Canon will just delay the 5D2 again and people wanting a high quality camera with great features will settle for the D700. It will have the perfect price point. I’m not paying $2800 (before tax) for a camera that does 3.9FPS with 9 AF point. Get real!
I for one appreciate the dedication of this troll. Very impressive.
it’s just a camera… Ok nikon, I shoot about 1 frame every 1.5-2 seconds. Whatever the recycle time is on my profoto packs. I shoot everying in manual at 100 ISO and 75 percent of the time I’m using manual focus. My stock agency will only take a 50+ mb file. Do I need a nikon d700 now?
He’s just a troll trying to get attention by getting a rise out of us. Just delete his comments pls. He brings nothing legitimate to this site.
I’ve discussed “Nikon” with a few people. He’s pushing things a bit, but I can almost see the smirk on his face when he’s doing so. He hasn’t really broken any rules of conduct that I’ve come up with. If anyone comes up with serious concerns, I’ll definitely listen.
For now though, I’m going to let it go.
For those of you who need to shoot 6 fps to get one sharp shot, a slow 3.9 FPS 5D2 won’t cut it. Even though there’s less Megapixels in the D700, a TIFF conversion will still yield ~50MB. Even if you don’t bother using the many more features in the D700, don’t you feel guilty spending $500 extra only to get less features?
Just so everybody knows, the Canon rep has been telling us at Henry’s that it would be limited availability no sooner than December since the announcement of the camera. I don’t know what the folks at Adorama were smoking.
ok, I have 3 x Canon 5d mark II body only on order and I never lay alll my eggs in one basket.
Here is the update that I have recieved:
1. Amazon wrote me and told me the camera would be in stock on Nov. 18th
2. Beach Camera tells me the camera will be in stock on the 3rd of Nov. and already shows as in stock in their computer system and that only happens, so the CS rep explained, when it is on its way to the warehouse.
3. Adorama has told me originally the beginning of Nov. but reading your blog lets me to believe the Adorama isa bit behind.
I will keep you posted.
