2024 is shaping up to be a pretty big year for the world of Canon. We expect high-end gear for both the cinema and mirrorless lines this year. We already know that the EOS R5 Mark II and EOS R1 is coming, and there will definitely be more.
Reading between the lines in the presentation, I think we can expect 6-8 new lenses for the RF mount in 2024. Some of which we have already reported on.
Canon has officially released their corporate strategy for the imaging division in 2024.
As we know, Canon let the world know that they are the #1 in mirrorless cameras, which was quickly followed up with Sony claiming the same thing. We'll let the internet faithful fight about that (some things never change).
Canon will be focusing heavily on video users in the coming year and likely into 2025. Us stills shooters are still plenty, but that is probably the best place to aim for some level of growth. The downward spiral of the camera gear industry seems to have hit bottom and is starting to recover ever so slowly.
One of the slides in the presentation touts Canon's 41 lenses for the RF mount at the end of 2023. There are two more bars that are both taller for both 2024 and 2025. If the graph is to scale, I think we can expect a similar number of lenses in 2024 as we had in 2023.
Canon also seems to continue to invest heavily in manufacturing efficiencies, which is something Canon has been historically very adept at.
Beyond that, Canon is also going forward with their volumentric video as well as VR and AR systems.

New for 2024, cinema strategy: kill RED
"whoa, I can make words that GLOW RED"
Step 2: ???
Step 3: Profit!
:)
Let's see what we get. I just want to hear about the R5 update and R1 already!
Jokes apart, I've never had a 40mm lens (not counting zooms). I guess I've never seen the point given there was always a 35mm available
PS: Sorry
EDIT: a 40mm lens could be the perfect answer if someone has a dilemma between buying a 35mm that may feel a touch too wide and a 50mm that may feel a touch too narrow when deciding which is the std lens to use on a daily basis with FF
