Coming?
I don't think it is, nor I have heard it could be coming. The current one will be getting a big discount in 5D2 kits. The 17-85 has a big discount in kits and it has yet to be replaced so I wouldn't read into that.

  • There is so much more to do on other lenses before renewing this one… sounds weird but it’s not the first time I hear about it. Maybe the same source.

  • the only ‘news’ I want to hear about this lens is that Canon will be making an F2.8 version and changing the focal length to 17-100mm with a 5 stop IS.

Is that really too much to ask? Oh, it is? Oh well :)

As it is, it’s such a ‘nearly’ lens in every respect, I found it very difficult to work with at times…so I gave up and sold it!

  • I really like mine as a walk around lens for my 40D.

For a full frame camera, the story might be different, there tends to be a lens to lens difference on zooms, so I’ll just wait for my 5D II and see how this particular copy does.

  • sometimes if you have nothing to post, it is better just to leave like that. or be more creative than that.

  • Please Canon, instead of a 24-105 mark II which sounds strange ([CR0] ?), just develop a REAL good EF-S 17-85 f4 IS … a sort of 17-85 mark II indeed …

I guess the market is ready for such a lens …

  • The fact that there has never been a mark II of an IS lens does not add any credibility to this rumor CR0.5

  • More like 24-140mm or 24-150mm f/4, 5 IS stop is more like it especially the price they charge. Start making good lenses that aren’t too expensive canon.

  • Canon might think about serving its professional base by giving us a 24-70 IS. I often opt for my 40D (now 50D) in low light weddings because of the 17-55 2.8 IS lens. I would like the equivalent on a 5DMKII.

  • Completely agree with oscar. This is obviously bullshit (or simply a mistake on the site…).

But it can be desastrous for people selling the current lens cause buyers will wait for a product which will never exist.

CR used to be more serious about “rumors”.

    I am really disappointed.
