The 50mm f/1.8 is a Renault Clio, it even has the typical french car build quality

I'm currently waiting for a holy trinity of f2.0 zooms for buying RF lenses, ideally in this order and internal zoom.

• 50-150 f2.0, starting at 70mm would make it significantly less useful. Ideally I would even prefer if it could start at 35mm like a 35-135mm to skip the 28-70.
• 15-30mm f2.0 or even 16-35mm f2.0 for using as both a Landscape and street photo beast.
• 28-70 f2.0 MK2 or even better 24-70 f2.0

When you see the 50-150 f2.0 from Sony and 35-150 f2.0-2.8 from Tamron Canon has to release something to compete against it. And I can't see them having years and years to do it. Especially as it's a very useful lens for wedding photographers.

I honestly don't know the answer to that. I thought if the lenses, e.g. the 35mm F1.8 does look noticeably softer on the R5, resolve softer in the original image, than it would also show if I just rescale it. I could try it, but rescaling all images sounds like a lot of work. Atm, I saving up/ looking for a good deal on a R8. It would be my light travel/ back up/ second camera body whenever needed.

Staying with your metaphor: I was looking for a A4, but it is not available. I gave the A1 a try, I disliked it. If the A3 works, I'd gladly save the money, sell the A8 and get a ton of accessories along with the car.

I wanted a decent/ good 50mm for family shots. The 1.8 doesn't cut it and the F1.2 L is too big (and maybe too costly). So, I opted for the vcm lens although it was a lot of money. I like this lens very much, but if the new lens performs - even with some caveats - I consider switching simply from a financial POV. I can make do with STM motors, I use the 35mm and 85mm STMs as well. That said, I´d give it careful consideration. If the VCM has major upsides, I'll stick with it.

Interesting, I never got a result that would resemble the difference you just posted with your comparison. I only had trouble with tones in artificial light, but I also have that with the R5. As for landscapes, I still prefer the Rs color. It´s a personal choice.

Unfortunately it's the only second lygnicolous Boletus that I have seen growing on the top of a trunk (crevices full with soil) and I think the first one was the Pulveroboletus xylophylus, not this one. They by default grow on the base of the trunk. I mean you usually are getting photos like the firs one. Anyway, I'm always happy to see something like these around - they are by far not common...

I have a ST-E3-RT Ver.2 and it had the same problems with staying connected to the EL-1 that was reported for the ST-E3-RT Ver.3. This seems to be resolved with the new EL-1 firmware finally. I haven't tested exhaustively yet, but at least over 1 hour with multiple times turning it off / back on it stayed connected / reconnected immediately. I might actually be able to use them now.

These are from today: another try for The Sparrow. And I was not alone photog there (by the same reason - The Sparrow )!
Took plenty of photos, most of them need DxO PL: very unfortunate time of the day resulting in very contrast light. The last one is mainly to illustrate the relative symmetry of the black feathers - good to separate from some other cases (that are not true leucism).

My definition of a unicorn is a creature or camera that exists only in someone's imagination. As it did really exist, the 7D Mark II was not a unicorn. Your hoped for "mirrorless 7D Mark II" or "APS-C R5" will be unicorns unless and until they're actually put on the market.

I have a friend who's been shooting Nikon crop bodies for quite some time. Her D7200 just gave up the ghost, and she got hold of an R7 to replace it. The level of disappointment for her is pretty large. Going from a solid 7D-level body to something closer to a Rebel isn't a step forward. Her other camera is a D500 and she is considering selling the R7 and getting a used D500 instead. Granted, the D500 only has that 20.9 mpx sensor, but it's a rock of a body.

I prefer carrying a camera to carrying a rock. I've used my R7 for the whole three years it's been on the market with no complaints about sturdiness. Perhaps your friend is of the old school of thought that considered the swiveling screen to be a childish weak point and the mark of a toy. Sorry, Canon disagrees - even the flagship R1 model has it.

If I'm going to drive nails, I'll use a hammer. To take pictures, I prefer my R7.

I notice from the gear list in your signature that you don't actually have any mirrorless camera at all, just DSLRs.

I suggest that you get some actual experience with a Canon mirrorless camera before you start telling those of us using them that it would be great for Canon to change the next model of the camera we're used to to make it more like some old DSLR you're used to.

If you look at the back panel of the R5 and R6 series cameras, you'll see their joysticks are in essentially the same position as the nested dial and joystick of the R7. Only on your 5D and 7D series DSLRs is the joystick lower down on the back. (And on the oversized R1 and R3 models that have permanent battery grips - so it can be reached when the camera is held in portrait orientation.)

So if you intend to use the joystick on any of the Canon mirrorless bodies that don't have a permanent battery grip you'll be reaching your thumb to the same place as the R7 combo.

I have no objection to Canon putting a third control dial in the traditional location onto an R7/II - just leave the one by the viewfinder alone. You do know that you can set any of the controls on an EOS camera to do whatever you want (or nothing) - right?

We don't actually know if the VCM is better in IQ or if there's a big difference between the AF. This might end up being weather sealed too if the recent mid-range lenses are anything to go by.

It's more like comparing a 911 to a Cayman. While I prefer the former, I can't fault the people who prefer the latter.

I don't see this as much of an issue for the younger crowd and highlights where they are going. Take the Viltrox highlighted in the article as I know someone whose purchased this lens. The new Sony is $2k, the older Sony is $1,500 and the Sigma is $1,200. Once they saw the review of the image quality of the Viltrox it was a no brainer at $600. They are moving pricing into a territory where additional lenses are esentially impulse buys.

If the lens just complete broke in 2 -3 years and they could buy by then a newer version for roughly the same money then worst case scenario they would be out $1,200 which is the minimum they would pay for the alternative.

Look at what they did for TV's. If my 4 year old $600 55" Chinese tv craps out I'd just go buy a brand new 65" for less money and much better picture quality.
