Here we go Again! Canon Apologizes for R6 Mark III and RF 45mm f/1.2 STM Supply Woes

I agree. Until COVID struck there was a 200 € rebate when you purchased the 24-105mm F4 L as a kit lens. For me, that really helped with the purchase. 1.199 € RRP - kit lens rebate - 10% in store rebate - 100 € cash back did add up to 800 € for this lens.

A kit lens should always have a rebate imho. Otherwise, I don't need to purchase a kit...

The only situation that makes sense to me is if parent/grandparent wants to help junior get started with their dream (know nothing about photography/videography) and just buy the one with a lens to get them started.

Here we go Again! Canon Apologizes for R6 Mark III and RF 45mm f/1.2 STM Supply Woes

I used to buy a lot from (and also sell to) MPB, somewhere between 2017-2021. Since then, I noticed they raised their prices more or less drastically and also their resell offers went downhill. Atm, if I don't sell on Kleinanzeigen (or eBay) I sell to wirkaufens . de because they offer the most money and they've changed my estimate. I get what I signed up for. Sometimes the difference between those is several hundred €...

Buying gear from mpb is even worse: Canon Ra (astronomy) had a RRP of 2.500 € and MPB sold it for 3.000 €! The R6ii has basically lived at the 2.199 € price point for the last year, yet the "like new" was still above 2.200 € for a very long time. Buying a used camera at MPB would've cost more than buying a new. one.

I recently noticed though, that prices have come down a little bit... maybe their sale numbers went because they were/ are so greedy.
I'll try "wirkaufens.de".
Thanks for the tip!

Go for it!!! The first reviews are very promising imho.
The financial risk is very low, even if you don´t like, you can sell with a minimal loss because will be looking for it.
I´m tempted even thought I now own the 50mm F1.4 VCM. I'll still rent the 45mm to see if I prefer it.
You are right!
I'll get this little cutie! :)

I think this has been more the rule than the exception for a long time. I remember when I bought my 10D. They couldn't be found anywhere, and I checked all the sites - B&H, Adorama, a couple of others - until finally, Adorama showed it in stock and I grabbed one. It was an uber-popular body at the time because it was a decent, solid bodied camera at a somewhat reasonable price.

I think I met the same issues when I bought the original 5D.

i think people get used to places like MPB having good deals, and start assuming the deals are good without shopping around. places like MPB then try to monetize their customer's habbits.

Canon Sued by Malikie Innovations Over Wi-Fi in Cameras and Printers

Canon's defense should be to request a representative from Malikkie try to use canonconnect to control the a camera by WIFI while a judge observes. "One question to the plaintiff: Do you want to take credit for this travesty? "

Unfortunately, as a regular former MPB customer, I have noticed that their used gear has become very expensive, sometimes even more than new.
And, if you look at brand-new lenses or cameras from reputed grey sellers...
Yet, a few years ago, MPB Europe was an excellent address. No longer, in my opinion, unless for discontinued gear, like some EF lenses.
Also, it looks like they are selling lots of lenses with water damage, sometimes even with fungus...

Good idea, they’ll pay Canon to be disassociated from Canon’s wifi implementation.

Here we go Again! Canon Apologizes for R6 Mark III and RF 45mm f/1.2 STM Supply Woes

Despite all the criticism, even from this forum, it seems the 45 f/1,2 is selling well.
Should I also place an order? I'm already tempted...:)

I noticed the same in UK. They no longer have good prices, unless you are looking for some very old bargains, 10-15 year old lenses.

I'd wait for the first batch to arrive at the customers and the inevitable appearance on the used market.
It's been like that with every lens since I started being interested in canon gear. Everyone pre-orders and about a quarter of those realise very quickly, they don't really need the new stuff and sell it again.
Besides my RF 200-800 every lens I own came through resale sites like mpb and I never spent more than 2/3 of the MSRP for lenses in perfect condition.

Edit: I'm gonna wait for some cashback from Canon before buying the 45mm. The 45 f/1,2 is a lens for very specific uses, unlike the other 50mm lenses. Therefore, it depends on whether reviews will take this in consideration. If not (MTF or chart reviews), I won't base my decision on them. My intended use is for landscapes or close-ups, not for architecture or other corner-sharpness important pictures. I want this lens for, not despite its aberrations.

Here we go Again! Canon Apologizes for R6 Mark III and RF 45mm f/1.2 STM Supply Woes

Probably because some people shell out for a pricey camera but have zero interest in learning what lens to use. The kit lens goes on once and basically becomes part of the anatomy of the camera.
I agree with you in parts. It's makes sense when we're talking about basic products. However, in sets like this (semi-pro), it doesn't make as much sense...

Canon EOS R6 Mark III & RF 45 F1.2 STM November 6

Do you even understand what VCM lenses are for? People need to understand that the Canon VCM lenses were designed primarily with video production in mind, not stills photography, and that this focus shapes the compromises inherent in the series.
. … As a result, optical tradeoffs such as slightly lower corner sharpness, chromatic aberration control, or distortion correction may be present—compromises that would not be tolerated in a stills-focused lens at the same price point. … meaning that buyers prioritizing stills might encounter characteristics that differ from what they would expect in similarly priced photography lenses.
I use a RF 24mm 1.4 L VCM only for stills. It is ideal for me in every respect. Price is slightly higher than the EF 24mm L II version was years ago.
I never had a better 24mm from any manufacturer. I have no need for another 24mm lens from Canon for stills only.
My EF 85mm will be replaced by the VCM version also.

Canon Officially Announces the Canon RF 45mm f/1.2 STM

Out of my kindness and concern for the inner suffering and torment of fanboys, here are several helpful affirmations and mantras that address the emotional patterns behind fanboyism by reinforcing a healthier sense of self, loosening the link between identity and possessions, and encouraging open-mindedness.

• “My self-worth is not defined by the products I own.”
This helps separate identity from consumption and reduces ego attachment.

• “I can appreciate something without needing it to be perfect.”
This encourages nuanced thinking and reduces the need to defend a brand absolutely.

• “Criticism of a product is not criticism of me.”
This reframes negative information as non-threatening and allows more rational engagement.

• “It’s okay for others to have different preferences and experiences.”
This supports emotional maturity by acknowledging diversity in viewpoints.

• “I value truth and understanding more than validation.”
This shifts the motivation in discussions away from ego protection and toward curiosity.

• “I don’t need agreement to feel secure in my choices.”
This helps break the cycle of seeking constant reassurance from online communities.

• “Changing my mind when presented with better information is a strength, not a weakness.”
This reinforces intellectual humility and adaptability.

If applied consistently, these affirmations can help fanboys detach their identity from brands, reduce defensive behavior, and create room for more open, balanced, and constructive engagement. You're welcome! :)
