It's a shame it won't have the top down LCD, I think mirror-less needs that feature even more then the old DSLR's
Exactly! It's a shame it won't have the top down LCD, I think mirror-less needs that feature even more then the old DSLR's, I'm always using on it on my 90D and 6D, it's very useful when your camera is on a tripod at night and you can just quickly change the settings without looking at the viewfinder or main screen.
I'm still looking forward to seeing how the R7 II will compare to the original R7.

Amen to this. Not going to buy any camera with the photo/video on the left. Toys like that are for those with short lenses. We, the ones with more length, demand better designs. As an R7-only hybrid shooter, count me unexcited about the R6-style body and layout, ESPECIALLY if it means that awful left-sided video dial. Sure the thumbwheel/joystick combo needed some refinement, and the off/stills/video switch could have been tucked a bit further back to prevent accidental activation in the camera bag, but everything you needed was right there at the flick of a thumb. No awkward arching arm to reach the video switch because your left hand is busy bracing a telephoto lens. I hope they at least make use of the larger body and improve the IBIS/Auto Level and we don't have a G9ii situation.

Thank you for the updateThe Canon EOS R7 Mark II will likely be Canon's biggest camera announcement of 2026. While it may not be the “best” camera that Canon releases this year, it will be a camera that will sell in droves. Selling lots of things tends to be quite important to a business. Some recent discoveries have pointed […]

The crossover from paintings to cameras being widespread & affordable took almost 140 years.Current AI models are trained on images and photo’s. Crudely stated: they are recyling what has been created before. A research study shows that two models resort back to the same 12 photo styles.
See: https://petapixel.com/2025/12/23/ai...-styles-study-calls-it-visual-elevator-music/
Yes, AI impacts the industry as in the examples you mentioned, but photography will survive: to capture events and memories, as a hobby and as an expression of creativity that the current AI models cannot achieve.
And simply because AI needs new photographs to create the 13th, 14th etc. style.
There are multiple precedents, e.g. painting has survived as a form of art when photography was “invented”.
KISS become more important as you age and if you don't shoot every day. i sold my two 5d4s and i'll buy another R5 to back up the new R5 i bought in december, after i recover financially a bitThe R and 5 DIV are the most reliable cameras I've ever been using. The trouble I had when using them simultaneously, is that I sometimes forgot that the 5 DIV doesn't show the exposure in the OVF, unlike the R's EVF. And I just forgot to adjust the exposition on the 5 D, resulting in white or black pictures...
I shot on the Canon 1000d from 2008 until 2018 and it got me into photography and still love a lot of those pics. The 1000d wasn't shiny at all, but it delivered great pics and for me a student with very limited funds it was a jewel which I treasured. Why get just one, when you can get two like me! There was a day before touch screens and the other bells and whistles, and we did just fine.
Nice shots/ videos, I look at the entire video tomorrow (it is 2:00 AM) here.Does it compare to my R50 or R10, no, but it is an entry point for a lot of people that don’t have the money or photography as a hobby.
I got mine to take in the field with the kit lens for my 2-week Navy training and posted this bloopers reel https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c_WQgCAaGKA not bad for the price.
Codecs and cinema OS can’t be overlooked.R5 II and R3 II (if rumours are true) can still be candidates for a full-on R5C replacement model. But if the majority of users migrate to C50-like bodies, then they might think that it isn't necessary. Existing R5C stock might last a fair bit longer than the R5 anyway.
Serious now: The R100 is no joke at all. This camera sells extremely well in many countries, it could even mean a first step into Canonworld for some.If people keep joking about the R100 I might just get one. Just to take great pics and post here or maybe I'll make a questionnaire: R100 or R5 out of it![]()
The only thing the R100 needed was a touchscreen and would have made it an amazing cheap camera for low income people or backup.
