Just Gray Heron: at this exposure the thighs of the Great Blue should be much darker. Off course Del Paso can easily solve the problem if he tells us where he took the photo. If he say's Americas I have to shoot myself (Great Blue is rare vagrant to Europe!) He should make it faster because I'm holding Pfeifer Zeliska .600 Nitro Express - so heavy for a long holding:ROFLMAO:)!
I took this photo in Kyoto. I also believe this is a grey heron. But I am in no way a specialist!

Canon EOS R6 Mark III & RF 45 F1.2 STM November 6

not gonna sell my 2 bodies to get better EVF or a bit more resolution. to put it into perspective resolution gonna be like 6900*4600 instead of 6000*4000.

however 14 bit e-shutter, better readout speeds, better DR & noise, is way more tempting.

I also would have loved it if they kept the 24mp and focused on improving readout speed, 14bit ES and maybe dropping the mechanical shutter.

Higher resolution sensor and EVF are just as photo oriented.

Canon EOS R6 Mark III & RF 45 F1.2 STM November 6

Wow!
So maybe I could buy this cheap 45mm and buy the 85mm 1.4 VCM using the money I thought I would use for the RF 50mm 1.2...

But I need to check the optical quality first: I never liked the cheap RF 50mm STM and I'm currently happy with an adapted Sigma 50mm 1.4 Art.
The Sigma 50mm f/1.4 Art has always been better than the EF 50mm f/1.2, the only parameter where the 1.2 lens took the lead was pretty much bokeh.

On Canon RF bodies the AF reliability of the EF 50mm 1.2 L (and all Canon EF lenses) is much much better than it was on Canon DSLR bodies. Even the RF 50mm 1.2 L lens is hardly any better at autofocus. So why to spent money on a RF 45mm 1.2 STM lens with similar optical performance but weaker built quality. Ok, some less weight.
I would replace my EF 50mm 1.2 L with a RF 50mm 1.4 L VCM, in the future.
My guess is this 45mm will be slightly sharper wide open, at least in the center of the frame - not by a lot, but slightly - mirrorless designs have been giving us that. But it's understandable, yours is a high end lens, this is not.

Correction (I read the communication incorrectly). Optical quality on par with the EF 50 f/1.2L USM.

Ditching the adapter, IMHO of course, is worth enough for spending the money; also, I don't know the used price of the EF 1.2 L but I guess is on pair or more expensive then the new RF 45 1.2 so there's also some possible saving. If the thing is good enough, I'll gladly ditch my 40 Art and hopefully get 50/100€ extra in return (but same price swap would be ok, too), without the hassle of the adapter.

Then, build quality in 2025 is good enough even on cheapo chinese lenses, let alone a first party f1.2 lens, which is also going to be serviced for the next decade or two, while if the EF L is not going to be serviced for that long (if even still serviced today), and could end up becoming a fancy paperweight.

That's why I immediately swapped the EF 24-70 L II with the RF 28-70 STM as soon as I saw that quality was same or better; new lens, two years guarantee, no service problems for at least a decade, no adapter, shorter, lighter, stabilised. The new RF 45 would likely be the same, if quality is what we all hope and expect.

Canon’s RF/EF Lens Production Exceeds 170 Million Units

Kind of between 2009 and 2014 they produced 50 millions lenses (10 millions average) and between 2014 and now 70 millions (6,36 millions average). So they are definitely slowing down, we don't have more precise data's in the article. RF could have had a noticeable impact on this average per year.
2009-2012 was the peak of digital camera sales when everyone was buying DSLR's.

A lens with that character for sub $600 is still awesome. That's about the same what I paid for the EF used. Not everybody's hunting for a tack sharp lens that is stripped of all optical imperfections.
