Although I treat my lenses were well, the IS of my EF 35mm f/2 IS suddenly stopped working. That is very annoying, because it is the main feature of that lens. f/2 combined with IS made it a night vision lens. I wonder what is wrong with the IS. Might only the switch be broken? Without the IS I basically lose four stops now and need 16 times the ISO to compensate. That makes the lens pretty unusable for low light unless I use it on a camera with IBIS in future.

This problem damages my trust in Canon products further. Two years ago the main board of my camera broke and I had to replace it for more than 600 Euros. I found out that many people had the same problem with that camera and it might happen again with the new main board in a few years. If something like that happens, I wonder if I should invest a lot of money into an expensive Canon camera again.

I wonder how much it would cost to repair the IS. Probably more than half of the lens price and after some time it may break again, as I do not think that the replacement will have a higher quality than the original.

As cameras get more and more complex, Canon might earn a lot of money from repairs in future. We still do not know how long IBIS will last, as the first Canon cameras with IBIS came out two years ago. And what about the electronic viewfinders? How long until they break or at least have hot pixels? The camera of my grandpa still works. How long will our cameras work?

I had to send my R5 in for assistance for some pixels burnt on the sensor and they told me that in addition to those, there are errors in the internal memory (??)

Canon has released new firmware for the Canon EOS-1D X Mark III. This is a pretty minor update, but a recommended one.
Firmware Version 1.6.2 incorporates the following fixes:

Fixes an issue that, in rare cases, displays an Error Code 70 after the camera has been connected to a network for a prolonged period of time.
Fixes minor issues.

I'm in the market for a wideangle prime, and I'm really torn between Canon RF 24/1.8 and Sigma 28/1.4
Intended uses: astrophotography (tracked), after-dark walk-around shooting in cities and towns (travel), and daylight landscape photography.
Wideangle lenses owned already: RF 24-240, RF 16/2.8, EF 50/1.8

Plusses for the Canon:
- Has IS.
- Small, lightweight, which is a BIG plus for travel and hiking
- Native RF mount, no putzing with adapters (although this is not a big deal)
- Close focus ability (doubt I will use this much

Downsides of Canon
- Relatively expensive
- Consumer-grade build
- While the center is sharp, the corners aren't the sharpest and will likely need stopping down.
- Need to stop down to f/2.8 at least for astro.

Plusses for Sigma
- Built like a tank
- 2/3 stops faster
- Very sharp, even wide open. Corner-to-corner sharpness
- Occasionally goes on sale for 450-500 USD which is a screamin' a deal

Downsides of Sigma
- Heavy. I could be hiking or traveling, and if the lens stays home because of weight then what's the point.

Hi, I have been away for a long time and eventually got myself a R5 in 2020 - just before the pandemic struck India. Now that winter is setting and hopefully the skies will be clear, I will join a group interested in astrophotography. As you know, these sites have no power, so the option is either to carry many batteries or connect to a power bank. I searched the net and YouTube and saw many videos and articles and finally decided that Anker has good power banks. There were four that I considered:

Anker 737 Power Bank (PowerCore 24K), 24,000mAh
Anker PowerCore III 19,200mAh, 45W Power Delivery
Anker Power Bank, PowerCore III Elite 25600 PD 60W with 65W PD Charger
Anker PowerCore III Elite 25600mAh, 87W Portable Charger with 65W USB C Charger
Anker Powerhouse 27000mAh Lithium ion 100, 97.2Wh

#1, #2 and #5 do not come with chargers. I opted for #1 and ordered it and purchased the UGreen 100W PD charger which I am using and am happy with. I also purchased a USB digital tester to see the voltage, current and wattage being used by the R5 and the other devices I charge.

Unfortunately, the Anker 737 has not yet arrived, and I have no visibility on when it will arrive. The dealer has promised that it will get it by the weekend, but I don't think it is arriving any time soon. If it does not arrive by next Thursday, I will cancel the order. So, I wanted input from you folks as to what you use so I can then look for alternatives. If you have not seen the Anker 737, do take a look.

Venus Optics continues to aggressively release new lenses for the Canon RF mount. These are manual focus lenses, but Venus Optics seems to be releasing some pretty unique lenses that are quite well reviewed.
Venus Optics will officially announce the long rumoured Laowa Argus 25mm f/0.95 lens for both the Canon EF-M and Canon RF mounts tomorrow. This would be a fun lens on the EOS R10 and EOS R7.

Times change, and technology advances. Lens quality that was not possible even a decade ago is now here. Before 3 years ago, a hand held high quality 500mm zoom was nothing more than a fantasy. With that, shouldn't the "Holy Trinity" also be updated to be (something like): 14-24, 24-105, 100-500?
I have both the RF 70-200 and RF 100-500 and both are very sharp. They have some differences... speed and size (although the 100-500 is about the same size and weight as my EF 70-200 f/2.8). But by far, the biggest difference is the range from 200-500 in a lens you can walk around with. It is a game changer.
I think it's time to update the "Holy Trinity" in light of the new technology.

The point of the 4 photos is to show that you can now take a hand held photo in dim office light at 25 ft and at 200mm that is the equal of the photo of the RF 70-200 f/2.8 in a lens that is about the same size and weight of the previous generation EF 70-200 f/2.8. Time to update the "Holy Trinity"?

I take 4 - 800 Flash shots a week for Auctions so I need something reliable
The Godox are not reliable for my needs.
I've found a couple of places online that may actually have the 600EX II
but if it's being replaced should I wait for a 600EX III?

Hi all. I am looking for a very wide and bright lens (ie F/1,8) for my R5 full frame camera.
I do astro and landscape photo and sometimes I need a wide lens.
Currently I have the RF 15-35mm f2.8 which is of course great BUT in some occasions, a brighter and wider lens will be very much welcome.
Sadly the old (and still good) EF 8-15mm Canon fish eye does NOT cover properly the full frame of my R5 as it works better with a different sensor...

Why canon so far has NOT put in their production calendar a wide lens?
