The Canon EOS R7 Mark II is in the Wild

It's a shame it won't have the top down LCD, I think mirror-less needs that feature even more then the old DSLR's, I'm always using on it on my 90D and 6D, it's very useful when your camera is on a tripod at night and you can just quickly change the settings without looking at the viewfinder or main screen.

I'm still looking forward to seeing how the R7 II will compare to the original R7.

The Canon EOS R7 Mark II is in the Wild

As an R7-only hybrid shooter, count me unexcited about the R6-style body and layout, ESPECIALLY if it means that awful left-sided video dial. Sure the thumbwheel/joystick combo needed some refinement, and the off/stills/video switch could have been tucked a bit further back to prevent accidental activation in the camera bag, but everything you needed was right there at the flick of a thumb. No awkward arching arm to reach the video switch because your left hand is busy bracing a telephoto lens. I hope they at least make use of the larger body and improve the IBIS/Auto Level and we don't have a G9ii situation.
Amen to this. Not going to buy any camera with the photo/video on the left. Toys like that are for those with short lenses. We, the ones with more length, demand better designs. 😅

Canon has registered a new wireless microphone and receiver for EOS RF

Wondering when (if?) this will be released. The C400 menus & manuals have had references to this for a while:

In addition, this website which seems to aggregate device manuals appears to have more FCC test documents such as previewed in this article, including real photos of the (camera-mounted) receiver unit: https://device.report/manual/15613866

The Canon EOS R7 Mark II is in the Wild

The Canon EOS R7 Mark II will likely be Canon's biggest camera announcement of 2026. While it may not be the “best” camera that Canon releases this year, it will be a camera that will sell in droves. Selling lots of things tends to be quite important to a business. Some recent discoveries have pointed […]

Thank you for the update :). The main question for me is whether the rolling shutter of the R7 has been improved significantly enough. I hope the readout speed would be closer to the R5ii, but realistically, expect it to at best be around the r6iii's.

AI discussion: The end of photography as we know it

Current AI models are trained on images and photo’s. Crudely stated: they are recyling what has been created before. A research study shows that two models resort back to the same 12 photo styles.

See: https://petapixel.com/2025/12/23/ai...-styles-study-calls-it-visual-elevator-music/

Yes, AI impacts the industry as in the examples you mentioned, but photography will survive: to capture events and memories, as a hobby and as an expression of creativity that the current AI models cannot achieve.

And simply because AI needs new photographs to create the 13th, 14th etc. style ;).

There are multiple precedents, e.g. painting has survived as a form of art when photography was “invented”.
The crossover from paintings to cameras being widespread & affordable took almost 140 years.

The crossover from photography to generative AI took 3 years.

Obviously, photography will survive, just as painting survived. But survival is not the same as thriving. The impact of AI is already being felt and will continue to do so in the coming years. Since this timespan is so short, there will be very little time to adjust - or perish. And this goes for both the users as well as manufacturers.

The Canon EOS R5 Has Officially Been Discontinued

The R and 5 DIV are the most reliable cameras I've ever been using. The trouble I had when using them simultaneously, is that I sometimes forgot that the 5 DIV doesn't show the exposure in the OVF, unlike the R's EVF. And I just forgot to adjust the exposition on the 5 D, resulting in white or black pictures...
KISS become more important as you age and if you don't shoot every day. i sold my two 5d4s and i'll buy another R5 to back up the new R5 i bought in december, after i recover financially a bit

The Canon EOS R7 Mark II is in the Wild

Why get just one, when you can get two like me! There was a day before touch screens and the other bells and whistles, and we did just fine.
I shot on the Canon 1000d from 2008 until 2018 and it got me into photography and still love a lot of those pics. The 1000d wasn't shiny at all, but it delivered great pics and for me a student with very limited funds it was a jewel which I treasured.
Does it compare to my R50 or R10, no, but it is an entry point for a lot of people that don’t have the money or photography as a hobby.

I got mine to take in the field with the kit lens for my 2-week Navy training and posted this bloopers reel https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c_WQgCAaGKA not bad for the price.
Nice shots/ videos, I look at the entire video tomorrow (it is 2:00 AM) here.

The Canon EOS R5 Has Officially Been Discontinued

R5 II and R3 II (if rumours are true) can still be candidates for a full-on R5C replacement model. But if the majority of users migrate to C50-like bodies, then they might think that it isn't necessary. Existing R5C stock might last a fair bit longer than the R5 anyway.
Codecs and cinema OS can’t be overlooked.

If people keep joking about the R100 I might just get one. Just to take great pics and post here or maybe I'll make a questionnaire: R100 or R5 out of it :)
Serious now: The R100 is no joke at all. This camera sells extremely well in many countries, it could even mean a first step into Canonworld for some.
We, forum members, may criticise it, this jewel was never developed for us, but for beginners and users with a very limited budget.
It is nevertheless a very inexpensive camera taking very good pictures.

"I have no information about a follow-up to cameras like the EOS R10 and EOS R100. "

A radical idea :) is that Canon could eventually release an R100 II that includes touchscreen, like the M100/M200 had.
The only thing the R100 needed was a touchscreen and would have made it an amazing cheap camera for low income people or backup.

Will the Fujifilm X-T6 and Canon EOS R7 Mark II face off in the 2026 APS-C Showdown?

"Regardless, the Fujifilm will certainly be the better-looking camera" in your opinion 😉 but personally I think all Fuji cameras are Fugly little boxes with nasty sharp angles and crappy ergonomics whereas Canon bodies are beautifully styled by the undisputed masters of ergonomics which always fit human hands and their curves are really sexy just as humans with curves are more appealing both visually and tactilely.

Not sure how many people buying an R7ii care about the lack of RF-S lenses either? I suspect most potential buyers would be using it with long telephoto lenses so it makes no difference that these are designed for full frame and most of them already own full frame bodies with which they can use wide angle and normal FF lenses.
The Fuji XT3 is the camera I most enjoyed using, Superb build quality, feels like a real camera I'm only using Canon as Fuji doesn't make FF cameras, I have the R6 mkii, probably the ugliest Plastic looking blob of a camera camera I've ever used but being practical the R6 mkii does the job. I'm looking forward to the supposedly op and coming retro canon based on the A1.

The Canon EOS R7 Mark II is in the Wild

I´m really glad Canon has settled in a design philosophy concerning there milc. In 2021, the EOS R, R7 and R5/6 all had - what felt like - a complete different layout. Switching from the R5 to the R7 and vice versa was a pain concerning muscle memory and handling.

Taking the R6 ergonomics makes sense imo. The R5 shares some features with the R3/ R1 e.g. the top LCD, while R6/7/8 will probably share the wheel instead of a top LCD. It also gives us a slight clue about the pricing or at least in which area it will be. If R6iii/ R7ii share similar ergonomics and users beeing able to switch seamlessly, that could benefit Canons sales.

The Canon EOS R5 Has Officially Been Discontinued

Like the 5D mk IV, the R5 will have a lasting legacy. It's a workhorse. I think so highly of it that I recently bought a second R5 body (used) as a backup body. I expect to have at least one R5 in service for many years to come.
Agreed. After I bought the R5 mk II, I figured I'd sell the R5 and use the R6 mk II was my second body. But for the most part, the R6II has been sitting on the shelf these past couple years. I usually only use it when I have a fairly unimportant shoot, or if i need a third angle for video work. I still take the R5 on almost every shoot.
(And it KILLED me to get rid of the 5D IV, but one day I was doing inventory and realized I'd sold most of my non-RF lenses. I still used it for video work til the very end.)
