What are the lenses you wish cabin would make?

The venerated RF 50 and 85 1.2L’s feel a little long in the tooth. Both are amazing optically but are too fat, an artifact of the very large and powerful ring USM focus motors needed to move their massive focal groups. The more modern RF 135 1.8L shows how far Canon engineers have come. It is almost impossible to take a bad portrait with that lens.

Today’s Canon engineers could probably retain the 50 and 85’s optical properties and deliver mk ii versions with internal focus groups driven by nano USM. Such a design could be slimmer, handle better, and autofocus more quickly, quietly, and with more confidence. In other words, they could feel more like the 135 1.8L.

My opinion is that a redesigned 50 and 85 1.2L would both inspire and sell. Heck, I’d unload my current 50 1.2L and buy both. Throw in a similar 100 F1.4L and I’d buy that as well!

Don't worry: somebody taught AI a lot of jargon... One day I hope it will learn! I mean it's still with low IQ as we all have been in our very early years :)!
Actually how old you were when you started to separate "cock" from "penis" accordingly to the context :ROFLMAO:?!
And I recently discovered the difference between MILC and M**F . The rascals who made fun of me will understand the pointe.
We never stop learning...

Canon EOS R6 V Specs: Active Cooling and more…

There are currently Macrolite adapters in 52mm, 58mm, 67mm and 72mm. That covers all current RF lenses with a macro designation (including the 24mm and 35mm that aren't full macro). Maybe there’s a lens coming that needs a 77mm adapter ring? The RF 24-105/4 takes a 77mm filter, if the 20-50/4 PZ is the same size and is a 1:2 macro lens, maybe they launch a Macrolite 77C adapter ring to use the macro flashes on it? 77mm would be big step-down down to 58mm, I'd worry about vignetting.
My most preferred macro rig these days is 70-200 Z + 2x converter.
This outruns the old EF 180 Macro in close to every aspect.

The filter size is 82mm

Now that nest (in botanical garden) is surrounded with yellow barriers. When I spotted it there were no birds around and I counted 3 whitish eggs inside (it's an eye level right above a path frequently used by visitors). Asked a gardener to fence it somehow (I have a membership and they know me) and in ~20-30 minutes it was done!!! I hope to see one day the youngsters flying around, would be a lot of fun in the next few weeks if everything is going well!

Very nice! Thanks for sharing, ISv. :)

Also, no third-party outside Tascam has an audio accessory.

The Canon EOS R7 Mark II likely isn’t coming in 2026

MTF 1.0 is theoretically perfect reproduction which is indistinguishable from the original.
Is that an assumotion on your part or a documented fact? I thought it was a linear scale not a log scale.
Is a MFT score of 1.0 just the current top value on the chart. 1.1 is another value thats just over the current scale and would require a longer chart that goes over 1.0. There are sensors (on other camera brands) that are already resolving detail over 1.1 on a MFT 50 lpm chart.
If you check out this site here:
The X-H2 is scoring a sensor resolution value of 106 (1.06) and the GH6 gets a score of 111 (1.11). Both are over the nominal 1.0 top value on a lot of lens MFT charts.

Is not the AF on the R5 Mark II significantly better than the R5 with a lot of different lenses? Especially with animal eye AF or humans wearing race helmets?
Reputedly so. The 200-800 is the one I have noted personally to be improved, and we were talking about it. The RF 100-500 is so fast any improvement is indetectable.

Canon EOS R1 & R5 Mark II Firmware v1.3.0 Arriving Soon

I’m trying not to feel bad comparing it to the Nikon Z8 and its firmware updates. Nikon honestly delivered through firmware almost everything people thought they might save for a future Z8 Mark II.
I’ve been waiting since 2024 for a firmware update just to show the battery status on the top display while the camera is off, along with more personalization and the ability to turn off certain information. Maybe they’re saving this and a few other small features for the R5 Mark III, I’m not sure.

What are the lenses you wish cabin would make?

i sold my second sigma 28 f1.4 Art after getting the 24 f1.4 VCM.
Good lens!

I just don't like 24mm the same way as 28, to me the 28 provides a very "clean", polished result, with significantly less effect in the image corners.

I'm still looking at that same 28mm Art, it's still in stock at the same location, since January.

Maybe it's waiting for me to go get it🥹

I just didn't really want such a big prime lens this time, something with a similar size to the RF 45mm would be perfect to me. The 28mm Art with the adapter is pretty big.

It didn't have to be a f/1.4 either, but I'd need at least f/2. The RF 28mm f/2.8 vignettes heavily at f/2.8, I want something I can stop down for a cleaner result at 2.8, without having to resort to the 28-70mm f/2.

Is this a real photo of the Canon R6 V or is "what might look like" nano banana render somewhat accurate but not 100% ? :))

Probably AI mix mashup of R50V and C50 + (R6mk3??) but you never know from Craig, because I think he did hit the mark with some cameras previously :D

The Lapwing didn't get it!
I think the male (note the different contrast on the cheeks!) is displaying distracting posture, he wouldn't do that if the female was not siting on eggs. Wouldn't be surprised if he went several meters away displaying similar (if not more drastic!) postures  !
