The Canon EOS R5 manual is available for download

Servo is the autofocus mode, not the drive mode. You will want to go to the plain rectangle--that's single shot mode--and change it to one of the other drive modes. (That got me too, for a while.)

I got it, thanks! One other question - I don't have the high speed modes available. I'm using an RF 50mm f/1.2, I set the shutter to 1/1000 and aperture to f/1.2, left everything else auto (Fv mode), temp is good, airplane mode is on, flicker reduction is off, and both modes are still grayed out. I do have it set to RAW + L, saving to separate cards, and HEIF instead of JPEG, but it doesn't say I can't do that. Any ideas?

Edit: It's DPAF enabled on raw that was the culprit. Dang.

Just got my R5, currently charging

It almost certainly will, theres even an option for entering the size for lenses that don't register focal length. Cant say how well though, longest i have is my 100mm for unstabilised.

That is cool to hear. The 300 is still one of my lenses that produces results that impress me, perhaps a RF 300 f/2.8 would be in my future since I always go for it.

CRAW. — what is your take?

The difference may be small, but I wonder at paying thousands of dollars for a camera and not shooting for maximum quality, at least part of the time. I understand if you are running out of room on your cards and can't afford a spare because you blew all your cash on the camera.

In 2002 I had my first digital camera. On an Alaskan cruise I had a 175MB (I think it was) IBM hard drive that fit in the card slot. I also had a 4MB card that came with the camera, for what that was worth. I was taking JPEGs but was afraid to take full 4MP shots all the time, so I limited that to just the most scenic pictures. I didn't have anything to download the pictures to while on the trip. Most of the pictures just wound up posted on the web, so no real problem. I would see CRAW as the 2020 version of that problem, and not nearly so restrictive as my Alaska experience.

Canon releases 2nd Quarter 2020 Financial Results

I’m not sure what this means either. But, it might mean less than we want it to. Notice that the statement also has the R5 and R6 launching ‘later this year”. So this was written earlier. So it could be referring to the R5 and R6. Marketspeak, and a bit of self congratulation. I used to be in advertising, and this very much looks like advertising copy.

For those of you that ordered an R5 from Adorama

I usually prefer Adorama, but after they fired Helen, I wonder what changed. In any event, I get 8.1% off from B&H due to the Payboo Rebate of my sales tax, that was $315.82 on my R5. I could save a few dollars more thru the Canon employee discount page, but I get a 30 day free trial with B&H just in case something goes wrong.

R5 overheating in still as well?

what i got form his tweet is after hours of taking stills , the camera wont be able to record HQ video. also in another tweet he said that you can still record 4K standard without limitation after that. it just affected on that particular video mode & didnt give any affect in photo mode.

so,... dont worry if you just exclusively taking still. it wont giving up on you.

Taking photos with the R5 causing overheating when switching to video

You're right only one person has reported that the camera overheats.

Unfortunately, it would cost me about $600 Canadian to return this camera if I decided to return it

Hope the camera is everything you expected

Lots of people have reported lots of things but none of them know how that applies to me and how I shoot. I’ll wait and see for myself how I LIKE IT and go from there.

That would be a good reason to cancel in my book - if the unknown is going to cost you bucks by all means.

Me too Tom.

Lens suggestions for concert photography...but there's a litte bit of a catch...

I don’t shoot rock concerts, but I do shoot a lot of college plays and jazz concerts. The 70-200 2.8 is a great lens and is excellent on the R, either the II or the III. Almost the same except for some new coating o the III. If you are in the US I recommend setting an alert on canon price watch as they are frequently available refurbished from Canon.

Stage lighting can be deceptively bright so you might also consider a 90D for more reach.

Issue with IDX III and 11-24mm and Sigma 14mm

Any dirt/debris built up on the lens mounts? Specifically, the ends of the ridges on the lens mount that would slot into the mount on the camera. Maybe the 1DX III, being a new camera, has a lens mount that hasn't worn in yet, so it's extra non-tolerant to any debris built up on the lens mounts. I don't have a 1DX III, but I do have an 11-24, and I've never had issues mounting it to my 5D4 or my EF-RF adapter to go on my EOS R.
Thanks I'll have a look. I never had a mounting issue before.

Err 50 on my 7D II with POP UP Flash..

Hi Ronald.
What Aussie shooter said reminded me, the EX90 will work as a trigger for optical flashes, and is about the same power as the pop up flash, and cost wise can be had for peanuts!

Cheers, Graham.

TBH I only ever use the pop up flash to trigger an off camera speedlight so maybe if it is too much to repair just get a wireless trigger and speedlight

How does the mechanical shutter work in a mirrorless camera (e.g. EOS R5)

Theoretically, somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but once camera makers develop and implement sensors that read out all at once instead of line by line (called a "global" shutter), there would be no more need for a mechanical shutter at all.

The fundamental problem is being able to read all that data simultaneously then push it out simultaneously, and that would involve millions of wires instead of a couple of dozen.

I could imagine a sensor chip with a buffer behind the pixels, when the "shutter closes" every sensor pixel is instantly copied to the buffer pixel, then it's read out of the buffer line by line. That would still involve millions of wires (pixels to buffer) but those would be in the chip, which is doable.

But such would require two layers of fabrication with the silicon (?) wafer, and I don't know if they can do that yet.
